View Full Version : Hair transplants?

Anyone here had them? I was thinking maybe next year after the wedding I would look into it. Going bald does not really bother me too much, but if I could have a full head of hair without too much BS, I would consider it.

I think that If I start feeling bad about going bald, I will shave my head and thatīs all. No hair transplants at all.

Once you get hair transplants you can never change your mind and just shave it down bald... the scars they give you are ugly as sin.

Get some Ronco Spray on Hair!!! hahaha :)

There's a strange feeling of empowerment when you decide to shave your balding head.

It's being proactive and making a decision about something you have no control over.

Ah yes, how we men panic when the hair starts to fall...

I'm lucky I'm in pretty good shape, but my hair sure ain't what it was when I was 25. Used to be a thick wavy head of hair just like my father.... And here's my 2 cents on the issue:

I've never seen a guy with transplants where it wasn't obvious they were transplants. I'm sure there are really good ones, but I imagine that the reason your hair falls out to begin with is the reason that transplants would eventually fall out. The dreaded DHT...

As we men get older, testosterone begins to break down into Di-Hydro Testosterone. They believe that this chemical is responsible for enlarged prostate and hair loss. When they came out with the drug Proscar to treath benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH - enlarged prostate) they found that the men taking the drug were growing new hair. Sensing a goldmine, the folks who make Proscar began testing to find the dose that grows hair...

And Propecia was born!

Possible side effects of Propecia:

1. Watery Semen

2. Impotence

3. Lack of interest in sex

4. Tremendous headaches

A pregnant woman should NEVER even touch a broken tablet of propecia because it could effect the sex organs of an unborn male child.

Now, I'd love to have the same hair as I did when I was 25, HOWEVER, I don't really like those possible side effects, no matter how small the occurrance. If I lost a bunch of hair I'd just buzz it like Captain Picard. :okthumb:

Let's do the math... men want hair because of women. Take propecia, grow some hair, and all the chicks will dig me, we think to ourselves. So you've got your hair and all the hot babes want to take you to bed. Unfortunately, you're impotent now from the Propecia, so you've got to run out and get some Viagra! Not for me thanks...

Wow, it must be Friday. Here Brad asks a question about hair transplants and I write a dissertation about the possible side effects of propecia. haha Take it for what it's worth... :)

The transplanted hairs they use come from a donor area in the back of the head in an area that isn't normally affected by Male Pattern Baldness. So the hairs they transplanet will likely never fall out. (But your own hair will continue to thin/recede/etc... so it's a constant battle.. You'll have to continue to get transplants to keep it looking somewhat natural.

If you run out of donor hair, you'll have to wear a wig for the rest of your life, unless you want to look like a pluggy freakshow.

That's interesting KC, I didn't know that...

I figured that if the DHT makes you lose the hair on top of your head and not the sides, that putting hair from the sides up on top would fall out as well.

I don't need another "shaving" aqusation!

Now THAT was funny as hell Serge. :)

I don't know about the chicks and hair part Vooman, when I shaved my head, I seemed to get more attention.

I got approached last night by a talent scout. Seems there's a big market for large bald asians in Hollywood. If I had hair, I would have lucked out! =o)

Wait until you're in the bathroom and happen to catch a peek at a bald spot (or thinning top of your head) that's been quietly NOT growing... once you see it, your head will be shaved within the hour!

Pharmaceutical companies LOVE that scenario... and affiliates are probably making a killing on it as well. Ain't marketing to the insecure grand?
