Even if this were true ( it could very well be), they do not have much of a following. A few thousand hard core people? Not enough to effect or change anything but maybe some local elections. These people do not control vast amounts of people, certainly not anymore then Farakahn or other loose cannons.

The sad thing is that in order for them to "retire" they have to die or be too sick to work. On one of the morning shows this AM he was asked if that meant he wanted those three to get sick or die. :awinky:

When their (and your) boy now in the White House was in trouble in the primaries - North Carolina, I believe? - to whom did he run? Good old Bob Jones, who can make a Mullah like Robertson seem moderate.

PD - are you serious? I don't have the hard numbers on followers so to speak

but I don't consider Robertson a power broker in the Republican party.

He's always been a joke (more so once we got past the 80's), he's never held political office (if he's got so many followers why doesn't he get voted into office at any level) and gets athlete's tongue every time he open his mouth (from sticking his foot into it)

and I think comparing Farakahn to Robertson is about right, they are both hard core, basically a destructive fringe element and scary

I am serious as a heart attack. I don't personally know any Robertson supporters either, although I am sure I'm still on the prayer lists of a number of them I used to work with.

It wasn't that long ago that the so-called Moral Majority boasted of at least 7 million members. The so called Christian Broadcast televison scam, where the Ayatolla Robertson preaches daily, reaches into countless homes.

I stand by my original statement - Farakahn is to Robertson as Castro's Cuba is to Red China. Yeah - both are Communist, but the threat they represent is vastly different.

I expect somebody to pop in soon and remind me that I read Marx and am duped by the lying liberal media. One person has already insinuated that the media pays attention to Robertson only to make Conservatives look bad. I can understand why thinking people, particularly pornographers, don't want to acknowledge the role the Evangelicals play in the Republican party - but it's a complete crock of crap.

Many folks out there take all of it very seriuously....

I don't know if anyone remembers but... (edited in) March 1981 [originally said Back in 88 (or thereabouts)] Penthouse sent a reporter "under cover" to do an interview with Falwell, which they subsequently published... Great interview, Falwell thinks he is talking to Good Housekeeping or somesuch and totally lambasts Penthouse, Playboy and all the other "evil" pornographers and sinners...

After publication Falwell sued Penthouse for misrepresentation.... He also started "fundraising" to help poor little Jerry fight the evil Guccione empire...He was literally asking them to send pennies, whatever they could afford because according to the letter, penthouse was so big and powerful.

Penthouse got a hold of one of the fundraising letters and published it, then they published Falwell's financials in a spread with Guccione/Penthouse's financials opposite it.... Falwell was worth about 10 times the amount of Guccione...

But even facts didn't stop the sheep from reaching in their pockets and sending their hard earned to Falwell...... Didn't stop Falwell from taking it either....
