Bill Gates. More good or more evil?

I love bill.. one of my heroes :wnw:

I understand monopolies are dangerous and not everything about microsoft is good.. but I have never really understood how America of all countries could seem to try so hard to tear him apart..

Maybe they could have followed through a little harder though... so we had a precedent to work from when dealing with "mega-corproations" in future.

I think for anyone to say you can't aspire to being the biggest and the best is anti-American. Let him do what he does and let the complaining little companies innovate to compete. Still, to this day, an upstart OS with enough chutzpah can compete if they are innovative. So what's the problem?

Bill Gates totally rocks, he and his wife's financial contribution to education has been huge! :wnw:

I doubt any of us would be posting on Oprano, or be in this industry if it was not for Bill Gates. He helped spur the Revolution!!

Most of the Bill haters are just envious....most of those suing them/hating on them would kill to be even halfway where Bill is.

While I'm not a big fan of a lot of the software they create, I just admire what Bill's done.

I've always admired BIll Gates. Anyone who takes a startup to the level MS is deserves everything he has. And he'll always have haters.

I voted "good". You HAVE to pull a few strings and piss off a few people in order to be as successful as he is. And he IS putting a heck of a lot of $$$ into the community and has made MANY MANY people millionaires as well as very well paid employees.

I just wish he'd married ME! :headwall:

Did you use DOS before windows?

I agree with the sentiment - If not for Bill Gates and Microsoft none of us would be doing what we are today

Windows helped bring easy computing to the masses and that put computers in many homes

He didn't get off my list until XP did away with the Blue Screen of death appearing on my computer more often than anything else.

Wouldn't we just be doing the same thing, but with Macs? :awinky:

He is a shrewd man who knows that if you make a product that looks like a much better product and sell it cheaper most people will not know the difference, even if it is inferior, and will go for the cheaper product.

Things should get very interesting now that IBM and Apple have joined forces.

I think Mac is finally realizing they are about to be eclipsed in every way when it comes to processing power. We are about to see a show. B)

Anyone care to try to figure out how many of us would be in this business or how big the computer business would be if Gates hadn't come along?

I started in the computer business when there was no DOS and the nost-used OS was CP/M. Dos helped a bit, Apple was doing ok; but when Windows hit the market, the computer business exploded. Suddenly, everyone was buying computers; and they weren't cheap, then.

Love Him or Hate Him you have to respect the pure marketing genius.

I think this thread would be incomplete without a dancing carrot!
