I sense the Iraqi people are going to taste a little bit more martial law before they are fully 'liberated'

U.S. troops in Baghdad fired on Iraqi demonstrators Wednesday in front of one of Saddam Hussein's presidential palaces, which now serves as coalition headquarters.

Witnesses say several hundred Iraqis gathered outside the palace and some of the demonstrators began throwing stones at U.S. troops, who responded with gunfire.

News reports say the demonstrators were former Iraqi soldiers who lost their jobs when the chief U.S. administrator for Iraq, Paul Bremer, disbanded Saddam Hussein's armed forces last month.
