Business Owner Chases, Runs Over Robbery Suspects In Hummer
Two Suspects In Critical Condition

POSTED: 1:56 p.m. EDT June 16, 2003
UPDATED: 2:35 p.m. EDT June 16, 2003

A business owner in Phoenix, Arizona took matters into his own hands after a group of men robbed his business, according to a Local 6 News report.

Police say three armed suspects walked into the the Mr. Insurance building in Phoenix and demanded money. A fourth suspect was in the getaway car, according to the report.

Ivnestigators said after the suspects left with the store's money, the co-owner jumped into his Hummer and chased after the suspects.

Police said that the man, identified only as Peter, followed the suspects through a neighborhood and eventually caught up with them. He then rolled his Hummer over their car.

Two of the suspects were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The two other suspects managed to get away but police later caught them as well.

It is not known if Peter will face charges.

That is a good idea KK, we can start a legal defense fund for him...

I can lead the protests in Phoenix!!

I can see the chants now...

" Escalade, Hummer and Range Rover,
We need more criminals ran over"

Ehhh its a start anyway!

Mike,

he took the law into his own hands, he was wrong :(

While I understand he wanted to chase down the robber, there was no reason for him to go run the guys over..

exactly!
they only had hand guns and singing Kumbaya ALWAYS helps diffuse the situation like that and had them put back in his Hummer all the stolen goods.

Todd,
I'm sure that when you get robbed after the restaurant at martin Luther King Jr boulevard,
you'll sing and get it all back in no time!

Todd,
if it happens to be Russians and not blacks,
I can teach you how to sing the Hymn of the Soviet Union in no time!!!!

I have a stupid question...
why Governmnets spend so much on arms instead of....singing lessons for the entire country population?????

would have been a GREAT deterant of any foreign and domestic aggression

i would not be sure. some states have some pretty fucked up laws on these issues. if it happened in Texas at night, he could have shot and killed them legally. he could have chased them down the street and shot and killed them.

It isn't like he chased them down with him in a car and them on foot... I am sure they had time to escape as he came up on the trunk and shit..

They robbed him, he crushed their car....

I have very little problem with this kind of vigilantism (sp?).

If he had tried to run them down on foot or something I might agree with you, but.. This one is funny as hell...

My wife and I were talking about Hummers the other day, she asked why anyone would want one, This morning I showed her the picture and said.. "That's why" :awinky:

actually,
I know EXACTLY what would you do...
you run after them in your car, catch up with them,
block their way and come to them and tell them:
"You poor underprivelleged dears!

take it, guys, you need it more than me"!

Serge,

I probably would call 911 and let the police handle it. As that's what we pay taxes for right?

Of course I am a smart person, everything is insured, so I wouldn't worry about a little loss :)

Todd you are a TRUE liberal - through and through....

Did you catch this part Police say three armed suspects walked into the the Mr. Insurance building in Phoenix and demanded money. A fourth suspect was in the getaway car, according to the report.

See they were ARMED.... not sure if it was guns or knives but they had weapons. A vehicle is a weapon as well, if the man felt that his personal security was at risk from 4 armed men, then he did the right thing.

Todd I am sure you would have just let them go by, or chased them down and when you go to them talked to them in a soothing voice about opportunities this country has for the underprivildged people like them....

Hell you probably would have brought them down to register to vote, Democrats need as many votes as they can get....

If this was a case of vandelism, or something small, running over the car would be TOO MUCH.... However ARMED ROBBERY is one of the biggest felonies there is ( after Murder and Rape)... it is a major crime....

Todd, I hope one day you grow some balls..... or some brains... something...

But then your insuance rates go up, along with everyone elses.

Police are swamped and cannot prevent crime, they can only try to solve them after they occur.

What if this group of 4 ARMED men, carjacked an old lady next, and shot her? What if they commited some other violent crime?

Sitting back doing nothing, collecting on your insurence ( which you will eventually pay for our of you own pocket) is why this country is falling apart. People need to be vigelant... work together to stop cockholsters like these 4 armed thieves....

Mike,

that shit won't work with me man, you not talking to some boy here :)

I have balls for 1, served my country, and you?

anyways besides that.. what is the first thing they teach ppl at gas stations, stores, etc. if someone holds you up with a gun or whatever, give them the money and call the police. Fuck, how much cash did someone have at an insurance company,?? LOL I am no pussy that is forsure, but I aint gonna chase the robbers down via car or foot. Do you see bank people do this? chase down the getaway car, come on mike...

Todd you see crime as something we should just live with...

I on the other hand thing crime should be crushed, and that every citizen
has a responsiblity to do his part.

Like WIG, many times I am armed... there probably would not have been a car chase... it would have gone done right then and there...

You are a pacafist, and a wimp... does not matter if you were in the military? How much combat did you see? How many enemies did you face eye to eye and kill? Would you just let the enemy go, since Uncle Sam paid for the tank, or military equipment? Maybe you could let someone else handle it.

I would not necessarily chase people down, but that is because I do fear for my life and it is not worth getting killed for any material possession... But I do give MAX props and support to people who do have the balls, or who are in a possision where they have to defend their property as much as they can.... and that is what this guy did... and that is why I salute him as well.

Time to stop defending the bad guys Todd....

While, in this instance, I like that the guy just flipped and went after these guys, but the idea of people taking the law into their own hands is a slippery slope.

What happens when the little old lady who decides your porn site is causing her emotional distress and is the equivolent of virtual rape and she decides to chase you down and run you over? What if you are jaywalking and someone runs you over since you are commiting a crime and breaking the law?

hehehe, while I love this story, I just worry about viglianteism and people taking the law into their own hands. Also, what if these armed robbers had shot this man in his Hummer while he was trying to run them over? Would he still be a hero or would he be a victim or an idiot?

let's all goto a new Mike AI vigilante system, chase those buggers down and kill them. you think your goverment wants you to do this?? Please, they want you to call the police when crime happens..

You know what, I never had to point my rifle / m-16 at anyone when I was in the army, I am glad I never had to, but of course we trained every day for war, that is the military...

Get off your high horse and open your eyes, or buy some land in Idaho and become a survivalist I guess??

Sykk, you make some good points (although your examples suck LOL).

The bottom line is if 4 guys come into your dwelling or place of business and intend to commit armed robbery, I think a person is within their right to shoot them.

I do not think this is vigilantism, which is the slippery slope. I think society can distinquish between the two.

hehehe, yeah, examples were a little extreme but my point is that we have to really be careful with regards to something like this.

I agree with defending yourself within your residence and establishment, but where does self-defense end and breaking the law yourself begin (although in many states, it is illegal to shoot someone stealing from you (shitty law, IMHO)).

well, although i'm also amused at what this guy did, it was against the law. i would have to say that in this respect it was a stupid thing to do.

to answer your question, i think it ends when it is no longer self defense.

Some might assume I'm soft on crime, but I'm really not. I do believe in stronger sentences and a better court system. I think we have too many people in jail over minor things. Obviously we aren't that soft on crime in the States or we wouldn't have ovrcrowded prisons. I believe in the system. It's not perfect but I'd put it up against anyone else's in the world. A system where everyone is (supposedly) innocent until proven guilty.

If I were in this guy's situation, I may have done the same thing...doesn't mean I had the right to take the law into my own hands. Hell, I'd might likely have been shot and whatever they were after isn't worth that. There is always a fine line between bravery and stupidity. What if this man had run over someone crossing the street while he was chasing down the bad guys? Is he still a hero?

As much as we'd like it to be sometimes, life isn't a Clint Eastwood movie.
