Hey everyone

I'm a web-designer in mainstream land and want to get more into SE, traffic, tips and tricks and so figured the best place to go for information was in web-porno world.

I know a fair bit about web-design but nothing about traffic and I have a suspiscion that I need clarifying. It's obvious to anyone with half a brain that the business and development side of adult leads the web, and from what I've seen this past week this level of advancement and knowledge in adult is potentially years ahead of mainstrem.

Am I right, has anyone here delved into mainstream and been shocked by what they've seen or is the gap getting smaller. As I see it anyone who's worked in adult for a few years should be a hot commodity if they transfer to mainstream but most bosses would be shocked by the Resume, but then as I see it picture/movies of fucking/sucking are just another commodity to be sold, like books and music etc.

My idea is simple and I wonder if it would work well. Get in the adult business for about 6 months (and expect to make no real money), learn how the pioneers handle and shape their web businesses and then transfer this into mainstream perhaps with some mainstream affiliates.

Anyone using their adult skills in mainstream for good effect?

Thanks everyone and have a good weekend.

Hey Cal.... Welcome to Oprano.

I know of many people in the adult internet business that have tried to apply their lessons learned in the trenches to Non-adult. Many businesses were created, but unfortunately most of them failed.

I cannot think of many mainstream conversions from porn that have done very well.

However, there are a lot of lessons this industry can teach.... One of the problems is mainstream biz is still not ready to accept some of them.

Good luck in your quest, and keep us informed!

Internet Porn is dead!

Mainstream Internet is dead!

In fact sometime next week I will be unplugging all the networks, routers and cables needed for the internet to function (Don Pixie and friends in reverse) and will be deprogramming Al Gore

So get out your books and read, go out side and play frisbee, take a swim, go fishing, attend DV's fun parties, drink wine with Serge, have cookouts, wax your cars (or have someone do it for you), have sex

The Internet is dead!

Long live the Internet

So saith I the Vick

Thanks for your reply, but what I think may well be the problem with Adult guys going to mainstream is simply money. From what I've learned a lot of cash is/was being made in adult and the payouts and income is not comparible in mainstream.

So you may have had people making say $5k a week in adult and only $1k or less using their skills in mainstream, therefore not worth the effort. But for someone who's not used to making $5k then the $1k may be a job well done.

I'll keep you all posted anyway.

We're just about to launch our nonadult affiliate program calculus.. so you can be the judge shortly.

6mos is not nearly enough though...5 years and i just now feel that i have a solid enough understanding of the sales process and how to agressively market and control behavior that i'm willing to apply it to adult.

Yer right though. Payouts suck in mainstream.. which is great when you're running an affiliate program in mainstream :)

Maybe you're right, 6 months is not long enough. However if you find a good board to help you learn and prosper then you may well be able to cut 5 years down to 1-2.

By the way the good board is not this one! Too much gossip and tittle tattle, although I will be keeping an eye on what this new guy Robin has to say.

Most people who post here are established players and don't need to learn how to run an adult site from some Internet chatboard ;-)

I think you'll be better off here: http://www.vnwr.com/

Not knocking this board at all and I realise it's full of veterans of the biz.

As for the new guy Robin, reading about him he seems certainly to be a legend - Perhaps a 'new' legend for 2003.

Anyway didn't come here looking for tips and tricks, just confirmation of my thoughts, which were indeed confirmed.

Thanks veterans :okthumb:

:okthumb: What he said........

As a dfn who also runs a mainstream site I agree 100%....

You want to learn the basics of traffic management that is the place to be...

Thing is Cal, I think you and I are speaking about 2 different things.... 2 different levels.

You want to take experience as person who is in the trenches - designers, content guys, etc.... The experiences I deal with are management, direction. 2 different things....

While I have experience at all level of this business, I not longer open up photoshop, or crank out HTML, server admin or anything else...

I have though started video editing.... it is fun learning a new skill, plus for my new project I have a certain look and feel I want for the trailers, so I am doing them myself.
