View Full Version : Driving to Tampa from NO

OK, next week Katie and I are driving to Tampa from NO.

We want to break the trip up into 2 long drives, rather then 1. I was looking for a nice place to stay along the panhandle. Not just a cool city, with a nice beach, but preferably a nice hotel on the beach. Make it a little mini-Vacation....

I was thinking somewhere around Panama City.... I wanted to get past Destin, because I would like to make it more then half way.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I think Sannibel and Captiva Island are around there - check and see - that's where I'd stay. Of course, I'd end up staying there for a couple of weeks...... :awinky:

Peaches, I think those places are PAST Tampa.....


Well Sanibel is past Tampa, and Captiva Island looks about even with Tampa....

I need a place that is on the panhandle....

Gulf Shores did used to have some decent places, though I haven't been there in years...
and then of course there's always that perennial Buff favorite, Pensacola ;)

Mike -

Panama City is great.. Only prob is the beach is about an hours drive from the interstate.. the same with Destin.

You can always stay in Defuniak Springs... My Cousins have an extra trailer for you if you need it:-)

Gulf Shores is a lot less then 1/2 way.... I was thinking somewhere past Panama City....

Sharky you raise a good point about cruising so long away from the Interstate.....

Can you recomend anything closer?

Though driving a little extra for a nice place would be cool too....

And I even looked at a map for that one. Geeze - and people wonder why I keep a map of N. GA in my pocket book! :blink: It's amazing I make it anywhere.

KK those are 2 places I was looking into....

Any recomendation of decent hotels.... ones with room service, nice amenities, incase I held up there for 48 hours or so??
