Well, I do love the city of Montreal.
Been in the Internet adult business since 1996.

Go to every Internext.

So I reserved a ticket to cybernet a couple of months ago.
Almost more for pleasure than business.

Now that my plane leaves tomorrow. I'm checking out their site
and the message boards.

Nobody is going? Theres like one party?

I don't know anyone in the business really so I depend on the parties
to meet up with people.

I don't see one post about cyernetexpo.

I'm going to change my ticket for just 1 day unless you guys start posting!!

What's up? Anyone here going to Cybernet?
Is it all noobs?

While I like Fay, Alex, and Lee.... their show is rinky-dink. On top of a despressed porn economy, means that its going to be a small show. Probably only Canadiens... :P

The industry can probably only support a few large shows a year.... and those are Internext....

Fay's is no more then a small regional show now....

I probably would have gone to this one if I didn't have 900 things going on at the moment. I've never been to Montreal but it looks like a great place to visit. Not sure if I'll even make the FL internext show this year unless I get a lot of things finished in the next month or so. C'est la vie.

Actually, I would have to say that everyone is too busy making new contacts and partying to fool with the boards. We are close to 500, and have 7 countries represented..... soo much from regionaL! :agrin:

As far as parties.... it is one of those 'you have to be here things. JFK, who seems to make them all - has photographed at 5 so far. We have 3 new parties that have sprang up for Sat night after the Webmaster tour. They just are not publisized, except at the show - no need. No one here is looking at the internet very much. Including me, if my back had not went out and I am having to do do things in slow motion.

look for JFKs photos later.....

Wellll..That's where I've been for about 4 years.

Now I'm 22 and trying to get back into the swing of things since I'm
growing up and not partying all day every day.

Time to get into some truly big time shit for me!
I missed my plane to Montreal now I regret it!@

Maybe I'll take one out tomorrow.

True to some degree... it seems that Phoenix has jumped into second behind the Internext shows now, there were more than 600 people there this past April...

Anyone remember an exact count on how many people were at the little get together that Shemp and Al4A had in Atlanta back in the fall? By the end it had to be 70 or so at least.

The amazing thing on that one is this was a totally informal almost impromptu affair. Shemp is coming to town and wants to meet some webmasters. Before ya know it, there's a dinner and Al4A has joined the fray with a big ass suite from hell at the Grand Hyatt for an after dinner party.

Most of the Atlanta regulars were on hand, but I'd say well over half of the attendees flew in from out of town. All of this just for dinner and a party with no promotion or advertising other than a thread on GFY.

What this tells me is the webmasters like to travel and party, and will look for an excuse for an opportunity to hang out with their own kind (these were mostly TGP types). The catch isn't getting people to come out, it's finding a way to make a little money for the organizers and sponsors. In this case the sponsors weren't really looking for a return I dont think, they were just doing it to network, have fun and meet people. I can certainly respect and appreciate that.

I think there's more of a market for "gatherings" than "shows".

The sponsor return is different than the organizer return. Sponsors should always look for a return on every dollar they spend.

Professional organizers have to build their own money into any event they do -- unlike those getting together for their own networking purposes :)

I see it as a lot like click brokering versus running your own sponsorship program...

I'm too tired or I would find Serge's picture of the 3 squirrels to insert here...

I agree. I would even go so far as to say there are probably better, if not more, deals made at these smaller gatherings.

Dokk's lake party several years ago was the same way - people there from FL, TX, WY, NC, etc. and Michael's crab boils also bring in the out of towners. :)

When you take away the huge parties, fancy booths with free goodies, and all the other accompanying parts of the big shows, you leave those that are serious about business with partying secondary instead of the other way around.

Bullets makes bad for BBQ.

Airport Marriott would've been about the last place I looked for a steak, but damned if that wasn't a fine piece of meat.

Glad it wasn't a real upscale restaurant though, or all of the TGP kids who didn't know what all of the extra utensils were for would've embarassed me a bit... :P

I'm going to make you and Gonzo eat at my mother's house - she makes Martha Stewart look like someone who doesn't believe in fancy place settings. And mom's not headed to prison - though if I could arrange it, I would.......

I've also eaten dinner with two members of "NY society" (males, natch) who didn't use their salad fork and ate slices of filet with their fingers, so it's not just the "TGP Kids". :awinky:

Oh, I dont stick my pinky out while sipping my sweet iced tea out of a mason jar or anything myself. I dont pretend to be overly cultured.

However, I generally dont look for fried chicken on the menu in a steakhouse. And if I find myself in a social situation where I'm not real sure what to do, I've found that watching what everyone else does and doing what they do generally keeps me from making too much of an ass of myself.

Hey, we're guys, we don't know these things instinctively. Our instincts tell us to grab the steak with our fingers, gnaw on it, make grunting noises and afterwards compliment each other on the quality of our farts and belchs. However, most of us are trained early in life by women....first our mothers, and then further refined by girlfriends and wives.

I'm just thinking some of these guys missed a couple of classes...

But then to be fair, GonZo and myself sometimes forget our training while eating at Fogo de Chao...

Hehehe - reminds me of the first and last time we took my grandfather to Po Folks. He had been raised on a cotton farm. He went balistic when they put those Mason jars down because only "Negras" (the word he used so my grandmother wouldn't pop him in the head) drank out of those. :headwall:

What can I say - Granddad wanted fried chicked and fried okra in the middle of summer, and I wasn't cooking it. After the little fiasco at Po Folks, we did NOT go back again with him. :zoinks: They're great for pic-a-nic food, which is the only time I've had anything from there in years.

My father, OTOH, goes there about once a month to get fried liver because not only will none of us cook it for him, we won't even allow it to be cooked in our homes. :agrin:

I was sitting RIGHT NEXT TO HP - how far away from you guys did you think I was??! I was close enough to hear about all the swinger clubs in Atlanta - oy.

And no, I didn't have any of the chocolate tank because I was too busy stealing bites of cheesecake from Vooman. :nyanya:

Peaches--

We got you pegged not to be doing much cooking.
Tell Granpappy me and HP will go with him. Hell we can all go to the one in Gainsville and invite Dokk to go too. I hear rumor them electricity folks eat up there...

As far as where you was a sittin'

You werent in our bread bowl so you alligned with the crew eating the chocolate tank.
I got hoodwinked out of my seat at the royal table on the floor. Michelle's damned husband showed up and took my seat. I was supposed to have been sandwitched between her and Nina. I guess someone was afraid id chip a tooth on a nipple or something.

However I was perfectly content to sit up there with the rest of the folks. I figure that was more quality entertainment anyhow. Down there Id have had to have been polite and all.

Honestly--
How the hell did you eat desert? Did I see you eating chicken wings with the Buffet boys later on? That idiot that was at the next table was eating em. Go figure --the guy was snooty enough to send back that fine piece of redmeat and trade in it for a salad...only to be eating greasy assed cold chicken wings.

You are a very smart man to have picked up on this after only almost a year....most men know w/in about 15 minutes that I don't cook B) I even had a chef when I lived in May-retta - I miss her. A lot. :(

That grandfather died about 16 years ago, so when you take him to Po Folks for dinner, he won't eat much - I promise! Now if you're talking about my SON'S Grandpappy, the freaky fried liver eater - he'd be more than happy to join you. He and HP have the same car so they can talk about having a sports performance car....for driving in suburban Atlanta.

No, I did NOT eat chicken wings that night, lol! I don't think I even ate anything at the party after dinner. And I didn't EAT DESSERT, I merely allowed Vooman to order one and then deftly stole a few bites. :nyanya: However, these hips I'm carrying around are NOT the hips of a girl that doesn't eat. :awinky:

I still think you, HP and Wig need to open a restaurant up here....the only decent one, IMHO, is for sale, BTW...........

Hey, although some of their feeding habits might've amused me, there were nice folx at both ends of the table. But I'm prone to sit right in the middle of the table so I can eves drop on both ends. I also kinda like letting everyone assume I'm a dumb newbie. It can be quite amusing....kinda like when Mexicans assume a gringo, like myself, does not speak any spanish and cant understand their conversation.

Heck, I dont think I met any jackasses all night. I kinda prefer that environment over the big trade shows, there's less dick waving.

Narrow minded! :(

I would think a person like yourself wouldn't see things this way.
99% of the feedback I've heard is that it was one of the best shows anyone has ever attended.

I even threw a party, Mike. And you missed it.

Evil Chris, you must only be talking to Canadiens....

Of course the few people who showed up were going to say it was the greatest show on earth. It has nothing to do with narrow mindedness, just reality.

Sorry I missed the show, if it was in my backyard like it was for you, I would have been there. But Montreal is a long trip for me, and I have a lot of work to get done....

I need to be where YOU are Evil Chris.... I figure staying home, and doing hard work will help me!

Ah nothing wrong with staying home and working hard, Mike.
The home-fires must continue to burn.

I'll admit there were a lot of Canadians in attendance, but just as many people flew up from south of the border too, not to mention a good helping of Europeans as well. I can honestly say that I've only seen one whiney post about Cybernetexpo. Quite an unfounded account too.

Plan to come next year... and bring your Segway. :awinky:
