S.F. is GOOD for August show, cuts cost drastically...
it takes only 2 drinks to get webmaster off their feet,
while it takes 5 in January in Las Vegas

Just because there are fewer sponsors doesn't mean a whole lot about attendance. Nowdays exhibitors have gotten spoiled on the get togethers with no exhibit hall. They don't want all the work and expense anymore.... they just want to go and see the people that are important to them. They only exhibit nowdays because their competitor is. If their competior doesn't they don't either.
The thing they are missing, is that people don't know where to find them. You hear a lot of "do you know where so and so is?" They DO miss out on business, but maybe not enough for the time and expense of having a booth. ???
When they choose to not have a booth or downsize drastically, they don't have to send as many people - and that DOES affect attendance!
I am sure that you will see a last minute rush, when they finally 'get in the mood. When they think they are getting left out - they will react. (but not in the way we are accustomed to)
One of the things that will affect attendance (besides money) is that shows just don't have the 'networking value that they used to have. There are too many other opportuities to get together. .... and some are ready to be more isolated with their own little groups.
Shows will be much smaller from now on.

Internext and sponsorships...
At the last show in Vegas we had a booth, and we had a little party a few of you may remember it, http://playerhaterball.com/ as you can see most of the sponsors of the little party had booths, and guess what ???? When we requested to have our party linked with all the others we were denied so I would have to vote on not sponsoring the show and just doing something for our friends... maybe a little party in Florida will be a great idea !!
Mike should I go to your house and look for money under the seat cushions ??? Let me know !
Also I will put up a will throw party for cash page if you want to get this rolling !!!

Maybe the size of the convention will pan out ... I might go ... i havent been to florida in years
Can't say as I blame sponsors for not having booths. Quite frankly the chorus line always goes like this... "I was stuck in my booth, the person I wanted to see was stuck in their booth, by the time we finally got to see each other it was too (crowded, loud, rowdy, late, insert whatever you like here) to really get anything done. So we set up a meeting for the next day and then someone didn't show up to my booth, so I was stuck at my booth, and someone didn't show up to their booth... "
Need I go on?
I've always been lucky in my situation, in that I've never been stuck in a booth. It wasn't my lot in life. Thus I never had to slit my wrists on the show floor and laugh while the blood ran out.
Booths make good meet-up places, but that's about it, really. You can't get a private conversation in unless you have a space upstairs, inside, etc, and those booths are quite expensive.
If not having that added expense of hauling around an overpriced booth and staffing it with people all day is spoiled, then spoil me all the more.

Everyone is watching ROI a bit more closely these days and booths are expensive. It's not just our industry. Even at Comdex, those monstrousities that took up nearly a quarter of the main hall of the LVCC are ancient history.
IMO, if you do a booth, you do a booth that is just large enough to show everything you need to show. And you man it mostly with hired help, maybe rotate in some more senior folx who can answer the tough questions a couple of hours at a time.
Meanwhile, someone in the booth has the iteneraries of all of the company's players and schedules meetings as needed for the real opportunities. I was always fond of having a sales suite type setup, so you've got a quiet place to meet and entertain without a lot of other ears around. The booth smiles and passes out literature and cards, but the players are given meetings up in the suite along with a nice comfy place to kick back and have some drinks, etc.

Alas, I don't think i'll there in august, as much as i'd love a summer holiday. The only thing i'll miss about internext is the people I get to catch up with, but its everyone else's turn to get on a long assed plane flight. :biglaugh:
The august show last year was a blast ... the weather was perfect, it didn't get too hot for the few days of the show, and lots of biz done sitting by the pool with cocktails ... what a way to work!
We'll be there. Last years show was a blast, but who knows if it can repeat.
CJ, sorry to hear you won't be coming. :( Was hoping to taste your cooking again! Uncle Mike is going to be disappointed.
Serge, I still need to get the eggplant / garlic recipe. That was awesome, too!
Get Uncle Mike on a plane and bring him down under, he would get along great with my mum :biglaugh: you can sample my cooking whenever you are in the country! I get my steaks directly from the wholesaler who supplied my parents restaurant ... grain fed kilcoy beef fillet tails, finest texture you've ever tasted :okthumb:
