That almost sounds sexy.. We could call it the "Lube-O-Lympics" and we could have sponsors like KY and Wet! We could have all kinds of half naked chicks in rooms covered in plastic rolling around and measure who's nipples get harder faster.

this is a bold claim...

do you mind be interviewed right here?

here is the situation...

The board you are running is slow,
you got the dirt on one of your sponsors.

would you post it and stir shit, risking to lose his business, or not?

Winetalk.com
05-29-2003, 08:16 PM
P.S. just to make your life easier...
you are working for BOTH:
1) MikeAI who always stirs shit and can't care less about bottom line

2) Serge, who cares about bottom line and very little else.

Winetalk.com
05-29-2003, 08:17 PM
P.P.S.
as I mentioned earlier,
it';s not electrons, bandwidth, HTML, PHP, etc who run the Internet,
PEOPLE do.

so,
what would YOU do?>????

you said you qualified,
now prove it.

Quick question for you Serge...

What is the nature of the dirt? IE- is it the "dirt" personal in nature or business in nature? Money now is better than money in the future and risking money now for some dirt that is just personal in nature is different than risking that money now for dirt that has to do with business.

That's business and that's worthy of a post because that business could effect yours. Now if you had said he was caught with a tranny hooker, for example, well then I'd keep my mouth shut because you can't invest back in Oprano with that lost money because you talked about something someone did with a hooker.

OK.
If I'M running the board and managing things then I will be keeping good track of which money is coming from where so I'd know the answers to theses questions:

Is this a loss of sponsership money?
Is this a technical issue - server / bw etc?
Is this a case of too much being spent on promotions / contests?
or is it none of these?

Sponsor, schmonsor,

We all know the 7% drop is due to Serge's loss on the market this week, only way to make up for it is begin stealing trash from offices of S&P 500 firms and give Gecko, I mean Serge a good stock tip.

Skills? I've been to your dinners, requirements should include getting Billy in the kitchen to cook up some real seafood, these Vegas restaurants don't have anything on his supposed clam bakes, sounds like a front to smoke the illegal tobacco to me.

How do you get people to read the board? Send the 80% of the population who didn't pass 8th grade English back to class to pass high school equivalency tests.

See you don't need Mutt, all your answers are right in front of you.

it's a REAL situation, correct ??

who OWES you ??

have they toatly disappeared - or just making themselves
unavailable to you ??

you did get a copy of their DL or similar doc faxed prior to ad placement,
correct ??

you did postal mail something that required a verifcation of delivery
signature way back in week one of board ad placement, correct ??

you did check with their local post office for a mail forwarding
tick, didn't you ??

you did require a copy of a current utility bill in their name
way back in week one, correct ??

you did call the deadbeats neighbors to see if they know where their
neighbor might have moved to, correct ??

you did call the phone company to see if there is a new listing
for them elsewhere (perhaps they moved and have new service)...

you did call their local newspaper to confirm delivery is ongoing,
correct ??

there's tons of othr things you could do if the time and effort is
worth the potential collection $$ - sometimes the time and effort
is better spent elsewhere (Board growth and NEW business -
as opposed to tracing deadbeats... that always seem to resurface
at some point...)

in any event... good luck...

you're doing good - hibbidiji. . .

but I personally think that anyone that has "the DV" offering to
help them in their business and doesn't JUMP on that - - - just might
not realllllly be hiring... :D

You just answered your own questions ... the background checks you suggested above are a rediculous waste of resources. The customers banners could have been removed and a new sponsor found to replace them in 1/10 of the time it would take you to do all that background checking.

Especially seeing oprano plus doesn't charge much for advertising ... you just spent 3 times the cost of a month of advertising on checking up on the person ...
I'll take a loss of 1 month advertising revenue over all that extra headache anyday.

I've yet to see an applicant volunteer information on how they would bring in traffic and advertisers ... anyone?

Andrew,
you never answered question #2 but I have

Situation number 3....

situation..
3 months passed since you started working for Oprano and the Gross went down 7%..

your thoughts:
Thats certainly a real world question these days with the oversaturation of resources.

Id answer with ...determine what changed and then react.

Changes in this industry come from outside a resource as much as from the inside.
External conditions exist that each resource must react/adapt to in order to survive.

You cant fix a problem unless you know the nature of it.

Newbie advice boards always did the trick for traffic, looks like Dokk is starting a new one =)

Why not combine Oprano with Voltar's newbie board and bring him on as webmaster. There you go :bjump:

here is the situation...

The board you are running is slow,
you got the dirt on one of your sponsors.

would you post it and stir shit, risking to lose his business, or not?[/b][/quote]
There are always other solutions, and when all else fails, go right to the top. If they are a longtime sponsor and friend, (or not), they at least deserve to discuss the matter. If they are still causing problems, quietly drop them, but inform them in email as to why they've been dropped and explain your feelings in the situation. Honesty isn't always the easy way, but it's the BESt way, and who's to say that person isn't going to wake up and smell the coffee later? Don't burn bridges in business.

Well, lessee...

I would probably go over to GFY and make up a new poisonality... and I would go in and chum up with the GFY regs for a day or so...

Then I would publicly call Serge out on GFY......

Then, of course, being a proud member of Oprano I would have to come back here under my own identity and post a thread to the GFY thread, pointing it out to Serge (in 5 words or less)....

Then I would go back to GFY and wait for serge... boasting all kinds of shit... Getting the natives restless.... While waiting for the mad russian to show up, I would post links to the thread or drop it in discussion on as many boards as possible.... Once Serge showed up, I would fight for a bit on GFY and crosspost onto Oprano as both myself and as my GFY personality..... Thereby getting the Oprano natives stirred up.....
I would slowly move the discussion more and more onto Oprano's home court then once things were stirred enough to have traffic flowing, my GFY personality would find an excuse to disappear for a bit.....

Whenever the board slows down... repeat formula across different boards using different variations... Intellectual flame wars with various Oprano members... Knock down drag out wars with various Oprano members... Whatever , you couldn't let them know what you were doiing though .lololol.. :)

Or just have a lot of contests :)

sarettah, i feel you are not taking this situation seriously ... you are making a mockery of a serious webmaster position with a professional, conservative company. What you are suggesting would require opranauts to lower themselves to the standard of GFY webmasters, and as we all know, we are so much more mature than them. This industry has nothing to do with board games & childish teasing, we are professional business people who handle business situations with class & maturity. I think you should go to your room & think about your behaviour for the evening.

Bottom line is Oprano could benefit from adding value to the board. You need to ask only one question:

Why would new people come to this board? Getting side-winded by diehard right wing battallions only goes so far for entertainment value. Any veterans in this business know Serge or MikeAi so if they haven't made it to the board yet, chances are they will not any time soon. Although you can work to improve on that too!

That leaves new blood, and there is little on this board for newbies. So if that's the audience you're after, resources is the best bet. You can always do something new and fun. Offer freebies, templates, helpfiles, tshirts, stickers, prizes, all those cheesy little gimmicks that work. Alot more folks are joining the porn game because it's the best game in town. All the diggers want new pots, pans, blue jeans, they want them now, cheap, free as always.

Also boardwhores as separate enities/employees help tremendously. There are quite a few in this thread alone. The agents, the minions, the armies of Opranoids are waiting to hatch. The budget allows for 1 ubermaster or 2, stretch at 3, (performance bonuses not included) fresh Opranoids to bring the flock back home.

Listen to the pulse. Oh! And I'm a great cook too!

Toolz,
do you have any idea in $$ terms what 7% loss in stock market woulkd be for me?

Although there are a lot of resources/industry news sites around, they all work the same way.
They wait for someone to contact them and give them the info that they post, but by going out and actively seeking links, you can quickly become the best source of industry information.

Maybe consider allowing webmaster interaction on the resources links,
if people have got something to say about a certain program listed in your resources,
be it good, bad or indifferent, give them the means of doing so.

Try to become the place that people check before they use a certain service,
or sign up with an affiliate program.

This should bring in all types of webmaster traffic, from newbies right through to the veterans,
once you have the traffic, you can then approach new advertisers with the facts in hand.

all true,

As Serge stated there are all type of webmaster traffic. Unfortunately a good percentage that isn’t worth the time of day.

Established /full time– actually making money on adult internet.

Entrepreneur/ Part time – Just another investment

Dreamer/Part time – dreams of being a porn lord. Has some AVS sites, throws up
TPG’s and is always looking for a good free deal.

Beer Bitch/Part time – Is happy making enough for beer money.

I believe a successful board has something for all the groups above. In adult internet it’s all about traffic and signups. A 1000 part timers will easily fill in gaps. That and most established webmasters run their own programs, promoting their own sites.

Every board out there offers a newbie section with articles. Netpond is now soliciting new articles in the forum. The articles in that area are old. The education and resource area, if you’re going have one, should be engaging in a constant tempo. One that provides information and interaction. If I go to a board, I’ll print a few articles and I’m gone unless something really interests me. When I see the same people posting over and over, 50 or more fucking times a day, one and two liner post (because they want a prize or money to post) I’m not wasting that much of my time there. Successful networks engage and deploy a plan. After all isn’t that the trick? Teach them all that you can so they can do that for you or the network you support?

I think that Oprano needs useful tools, perhaps scripts for webmasters. These would need constant updating and promoting. Interesting articles about business is something I really enjoy. A good newsletter is definitely in order but it needs to be clever to make a webmaster want to READ it instead of hitting the delete button. Creating good free scripts with java banner rotation throughout keep the webmasters mindful. Coming up with the right scripts is the key.

I’ve learned a lot on Oprano. I consider myself a pretty savvy business woman who needed to sharpen my edge. After a few months on the boards, especially this one, I was able to lay some tracks. It brought focus to all the things I wanted to do, thought about doing and new projects to consider.

I’d personal like to see good moderators here. Not moderators that introduce a lot of stupid topics- “What did you eat for breakfast?” – I mean it’s ok to be lighthearted but when you see this stupid shit all the time it gets annoying. That’s why I only pop by GFY for a few minutes a day, keep my presence on the boards, make a post or two & leave. I’m just not interested in reading or interacting.

Something that would be interesting on a board, a lot of work but worth it, would be a webmasters community of sorts where webmasters could learn & interact with others publishing the same content or promoting like products. Kinda like what I want to do with Niche Cartel- a site that focused on niche content, resources, extensive information, tools to teach webmasters better ways to promote niches. If you promote niches you want to know who your surfer is and how you can better serve them. A webmaster community taps into several major areas- niche, amateur, products (pills, toys, 900).

Damn, sorry for this long ass post. My brain isn’t even awake! I need more coffee.

Being a long time friend of Oprano (as many others are) let me see if I can help out a little

You want more eyes to the site - sarettah was on track - stir shit. Don't be afraid to break eggs to make omelet. Luke Ford (even if you hate him) is always an easy target. Grab some dirt on his doings and gets him and others posting. Controversy sells

Want more posts - ask questions (like Colin does) about interesting topics. Questions require replies and thought exchanges as people have opinions are usually are willing to share their opinions

Also post interesting news articles (like Forest, Serge, MikeAI, myself and a few other do) and ask for other opinions about them and what they would do

Payment 3 weeks over due and John (where's the fucking money) is already on the case ..... act like a collection agency. call morning and evening. Find out why fees haven't been paid, what the problem is and more importantly HOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM (have the sponsor send payment, take CC payment or check payment right then when you get them on the phone, if it bounces ..... cat's out of the bag) AND EVEN MORE IMPORTANT COLLECT!

Revenues down 7% - WHY? What has happened to make this drop happen - make the solution and keep it simple KISS

Respectfully I disagree with DV, Oprano doesn't need scripts and so on as most people here have made it in the business and already have what they need or know where to get it

right now it looks like the focus of this thread is on personality and growth of Oprano and maintaining the Oprano Brand (which are all important) but remember Mutt also did the sports pools (he found the software, installed it and maintained it)

Edit - get the Oprano newsletter back up and running on a regular basis, Print half the article or info in the email and link back to Oprano for the rest of the info
Also that is more ad space to sell

after the coffee kicks in maybe I'll think of a few more thing

p.s. Coffee is starting to work a little
as for new advertisers - any new program or product needs to be advertising with Oprano, this is where the movers and shakers (so to speak) of the business read. I would dare say the readers of Oprano have the highest per capita income of any Adult industry webmaster chat or resource board

>>>>Respectfully I disagree with DV, Oprano doesn't need scripts and so on as most people here have made it in the business and already have what they need or know where to get it>>>

Here's the thing... for Oprano or any webmaster board to be successful (this is my thinking & opinions) they need a vast market. See previous email about different types of webmasters. Newbies needs scripts & there's a HUGE ass population of closet webmaster running small sites, tpgs and avs's, that promote the sponsors that PAY Oprano to be here. Collectively they make up a huge chunk of traffic. I didn't even realize how big until I started investigating TPG’s and AVS as being an alternate traffic source.

If you’ve been here a while you’ll read between the lines and know that the traffic kings are here. A traffic trading script would be great here, especially if someone worked with the webmasters. That’s just one idea. Team up with a company that already has this tool, offer an Oprano version. Seed the script with sponsor ads. There’s all kinds of scripts these smaller or even mid-size webmasters would use.

As for the newsletter. There are very few I read. There's an art to them.

If I want to check out some piss marketing I troll over to GFY and watch Serge fuck with them there. Brilliant way to keep getting that tag line out there in everyones face because you know they are reading it...hell its GFY! Thats what they are there for. I mean really -- if you dont have any sites up and running what would motivate an individual to post "IMAKEBEERMONEY.COM converts like crazy?" Do they think everyone is so stupid that no one realizes they havent even had as much as a TGP running since bannerfree.com at C.O.N.D.O.M. ?

The Vast marketing angle is also plausible. Everyone is looking for automation tools -- you can outsource some here for members. My guess is that theres a deal to be struck with some coders where Oprano would get a slice of the action [Signs, Signs, Signs].

And your right ...its not so much as newbies as it is there are people out there quietly running several sites at once under a TGP or AVS umbrella and making serious bucks. A lot of people dont come into forums dick waving just to be "pimpin large." Hell look at Peaches...as far as I know she doesnt have any pay sites!

As far as revenue issues ...I think its become VERY hard to throw up a resource board and get 5K a month for an "identicon" button. Pay Site owners are looking for a ROI as opposed to vanity. However I do agree that a new program would be well served to advertise here. There are several folks here that could throw enough productive traffic at the site to make it very reasonable.

I like the newsletter idea the art of it --at least in my book -- is for me to get that email or 2 a week letting me know whats going on on the board or what I missing out on. And if your giving something away for me just showing up...thats at least good for a look.

The sports pool is a good idea becasue it wraps a lot of those ideas together. People like contests!

Foregoing all of that...the real reason I come over here, is that I can easily check in a few times a day...see if anything of note is going on in the industry, do a little networking, look at what other people are doing and get a little debate action on business related topics.

Thats why I have taken other sites off my freqently visited list.

I tell you Serge, if things get as bad as you've said in this thread, I'd be forced to hunt down the guilty party and beat them senseless with rubber farm animals... On videotape, no less. Then I'd sell the tapes to make back any money I lost from them.

Are the number of posts on the board down, the same or more?

Am thinking there is a happy medium here

My thought is (and I can be wrong) who wants the thousands of posters like someplace like GYF who aren't making serious living and just adding bullshit posts (example - would you tag this ect .... )

To give advertisers the best value and ROI you need to have an active board populated with posters from business (and the business owners or decision makers) that have financial resources and are able to make decisions than involve substantial revenue streams

Some examples - when I need design service I go to
Webinc http://www.webinc.com or
AAA Adult Design http://www.aaaadultdesign.com/
I've had work done by both and have been very happy with both companies

Why did I use them, I've seen both here (ads and posting) and knew both did quality work and could meet my expectations

Another thing that is interesting me is https://www.epassporte.com/
I see their ad here and I listen and read all that KK and Rand have to say about it. It doesn't quite fit my business plan yet (no recurrings and just beginning to get market penetration) but with a very loyal customer base like I have the minute they can recur I will consider introducing it to my paysite customers as a viable option to other CC processors

is this a little out of the general gist of the conversation ... maybe. But a lot needs to be considered and it takes a lot of personality, intelligence, drive, vision and ambition to fulfill what Oprano is looking for so I'm just kicking a little into the gumbo

Maybe I should break this down into 5 posts he he he he

You just answered your own questions ... the background checks you suggested above are a rediculous waste of resources. The customers banners could have been removed and a new sponsor found to replace them in 1/10 of the time it would take you to do all that background checking.

Especially seeing oprano plus doesn't charge much for advertising ... you just spent 3 times the cost of a month of advertising on checking up on the person ...
I'll take a loss of 1 month advertising revenue over all that extra headache anyday.

I've yet to see an applicant volunteer information on how they would bring in traffic and advertisers ... anyone?

some people sometimes want to track a person...
some people don't...
circumstances determine that...
to each their own...

they were merely questions/suggestions...

You want more advertisers you get more reloads and more posters.

My 2 cents in general....

For sheer volume of posters, the GFY model is king. But ya know, I'd hate to see Oprano turn into that.

Boards aren't just pieces of software or information. They're communities. Communities of like minded individuals or at least groups that share a common interest. The Oprano community consists mostly of individuals who are more business oriented, have been around the block a time or two and are typically a bit older than the GFY crowd.

The GFY crowd seems to be young and mostly part timers or at best one man basement operations. There's more of them than there are old timers, always will be. The answer isn't luring more GFY users over to Oprano. That just waters down the gumbo.

However, it would be nice to help some of the people over there who might fit into the gumbo here find their way over. Same thing goes for any place on the web.

I have to confess in the past year, I have found a number of opportunities on GFY that never quite surfaced over here. This includes new content providers, scripts and even sponsor programs. That's a major missed opportunity on both sides. There are major players who read Oprano who will never wade into GFY deep enough to find those vendors.

As for solving Serge's hypothetical problems, it's interesting to see how various people approach a business problem. I've found that there are two things that will guide you thru most web business and marketing related problems. That is a good thorough analytical understanding of numbers and an understanding of human psychology and behavior.

Always always always study your data and numbers, and try to analyze and understand what makes them change both for the good and for the bad. When you identify something that impacts them in a positive manner, do it over and over. Automate and duplicate! If something impacts them negatively, get rid of it....or sell it to your competitor. :D

And always remember the key number in this business is NOT necessarily traffic....it is dollars.

If you leave a pot of gumbo on the stove too long without stirring it up well, it will scorch, leaving all the good stuff stuck on the bottom...
