View Full Version : Luke Ford, a racist ?

Some luke/duc/duck quotes:

"I found Violet Blue as interesting as hell and I wasn't offended by anything she said"

Regarding Violet Blue's desire to live in a white world - that no more offends me than an Orthodox Jew wanting to live in an Orthodox Jewish community or a black person wanting to live among blacks etc... There's nothing wrong with a white person wanting to live among white people.

Why I turn it into a discussion of Judaism? Because that subjects interests me a helluva lot more than Blue's putative racism.

What is the argument that he is "racist"? I don't think someone not being offended by someone else's (presumably) racist comments makes one racist.

sarettah

Hey Colin...

"Because that subjects interests me a helluva lot more than Blue's putative racism."

Putative=supposed

The comments she made in there:

Violet "Ron Jeremy doesn't look Jewish."
Violet: "I think we should just kill the entire Middle East."
Violet: "I think they should all go back to where they belong"
Violet: "there are a lot of Mexican scum who tend to live off the government and have a bunch of babies"
Violet: "they keep buying up all the 7-11s.
Violet: "Everybody is white. It's a wonderful wonderful thing. It's clean. There aren't a lot of icky people

..Reveal her racism.... To not recognize this as racism, and instead condone it.. Which the "putative" slipped in there does.. and glossing over it as "Violet Blue's desire to live in a white world" does... reveals Luke's own prejudices... That he sees nothing wrong with the statements she made, that he does not even recognize them as being racist makes him part of the problem.
'
IMHO of course...

Why even discuss him?

You only fuel his ego.

He's a legend in his own mind.

(Shit! Shit! I just added some coals myself!)

Racist test question.

"You identify certain kinds of music with certain races".

If I identify country as "white" am I a racist?

Well, at least with money, most people don't have a problem with racism...

all money is green... :)

I love green stuff :agrin:

I never understood back in the day, people refusing to do business with folks because of their race/creed/etc....

Hell, someone wants to give me money I'm gonna take it....

I wouldn't necessarily class that as racism but the ability to define music by it's genre, wouldn't you think?

I've just ate a dictionary :P

No, I don't think so. I just don't think that someone not "condoning" someone else's alleged racist behavior makes them necessarily racist.

If you take a test and are aware of what the results should be and are aware of the questions asked, you can make the results come out anyway you want....

Tests mean nothing.

What you say and what you do are what the world will measure you by.

Do I think you are a rascist ? Yesterday, I would have said no, I in fact would have added on, NO WAY !!!

Today, after our discussion on Setgo, I am no longer sure.

If I make a comment that is blatantly racist....

and you say, I have no problem with that comment....

You are condoning, basically agreeing by default with my comment...

I, and those that hear the conversation, can rightfully assume that you agree with my comment....

does that make more sense....

No comment means no comment. People have all kinds of personal reasons for doing things. There's a difference between what your feelings are and what your judgement of someone's else's feelings are. If my grandfather makes a racist remark because he's older/from a different generation or whatever and I don't call him out on it that doesn't make me a "racist", does it?

I said alleged racist behavior. Am I now racist too in your eyes?

I passed the test. Isn't that enough?

From your setgo posts: I don't think racism is immoral. Moral codes are relative. There is no universal moral code.

The "chosen people" are racist by that definition. Some people may think they are superior because they are white, black, jewish, asian or whatever. I really don't care. If a black guy thinks he is superior to me because he is black, good for him. One may think they are better because of their ethnicity (Jewish/Muslim). I don't care if they are not acting upon it. Big difference. Jewish pride, black pride, asian pride. Go for it. Knock yourself out.

Are people better than giraffes or gerbils? Many in PETA think you are immoral if YOU think that. A future earth may very well believe that. Who knows? They will call that morality. I don't think there's any such thing as "better" in these questions and I really don't care if someone else does. I really have no problem with Serge thinking Russians are the best chess players. ;-)

A black person and an asian person are chosen at random from the US population and given a math test. You will be given $1 million if you can guess which of them will perform better. What do you guess?

A black guy and a white guy are chosen at random and will race 100 meters . You will be given $1 million if you can guess which of them will win the race. What do you guess?

Are you racist?

No comment is far different than "no Problem with that comment"

Not calling someone on a comment is not necessarilly condoning it. We all do that at times... Sometimes out of respect for the person saying it (Grandpa etc) sometimes out of a self preservation instinct....(lets see, theres 10 of them, one of me, dont think now is a good time to teach awareness..nopers)...

But having "No Problem" with a comment and stating such, does condone
the comment.....

(edited...removed image from colin's quote and fixed type on such)

Probably not, but if you decided...

"I hate all country music because it is done by white folk and I hate white folk" would...

Just because you recognize that the vast majority of country music is performed by whites does not in itself make you racist.

If it is "alleged" and not "fact", then no...

But if anyone looking at a statement with open eyes can see that a statement was racist... and you choose to keep your eyes closed and provide yourself with plausible deniability by labeling it as "alleged", then yes, it would.
