Colin,
I'm not the math master you are... but looking at those graphs of cases vs deaths by country... There is a HUGE ratio difference in 'reported' deaths per cases for China vs rest of the world... you catch that? That alone paints a big question mark on the accuracy of the numbers China is feeding rest of the world...

Agreed. China's numbers are so suspecty that the author of this site made a separate column for "Minus China" in the table.

The only thing I would add is that these numbers are the total people who have had it at one point, not the number of people who currently have it.
I would assume a lot of people in that list have gotten better and are not propagating the decease.

About half the total cases are listed as "recovered".

"The death toll in mainland China from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome has risen to 79, and there are 402 additional suspected cases in Beijing alone, the Chinese Health Ministry in Beijing said Sunday. The announcement came after weeks of criticism aimed at Chinese authorities, with many medical experts accusing officials of trying to cover up the true extent of the outbreak."

Lot less contagious though.
"Spanish flu" would infect nearly everyone on an army base within days.
Hell of a blow on the tail-end of World War I, huh?
Email today from the Evil Corporate Masters HQ (have removed references to the muckity-mucks):
In response to requests for clarification on travel to and from and within the Asia Pacific region:
Please be advised the recent SARS travel advisory pertains to all parts of China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam and any business travel to and from and between these countries is suspended. In addition, any business travel which transits through these countries from anywhere in the world is also suspended. Exceptions to the advisory need to be approved by (Poobah) or (Grand High Poobah). We will continue to monitor the situation, consult with the appropriate health authorities, and update you as necessary.
Regarding personal travel:
If you choose to visit a potential SARS "danger area," please inform your local Human Resources Department.
Thank you for your cooperation and diligence in this matter.
Can you believe this shit? Absolutely none of their fucking business... unless I come home sick, maybe...
Really, I understand the logic behind it all, but could they make us feel any more like goddamned children?

Errrm, I haven't heard it was the health care workers.....
But my entire family lives there and they are saying that people who are 'possible cases' say they 'feel fine' and are ignoring the request for a 10 day quarantine....those are the idiots.
There were 2 of the 'church group' of people who actually went to volunteer their time at an old age home AFTER they were asked to self quarantine....
2 others were actually forced by the courts to stay home.....
What the hell are these people thinking????
