There has been a lot of posts about the UN and whether it is a viable body, whether it is anti-American, etc.

Many have pointed out that the Security Council is bust -- an irrelavent arm of the UN.

Many have supported the UN in other areas, though. Specifically humanitarian wise.

This got me thinking.... Why is Kofi Annan silent on the atrocities of the Iraqi regime?

Why has there been no voice on:

-- Iraqi's torturing, executing and parading captured coalition soldiers

-- Iraqi's not allowing Red Cross access to POW's

-- Iraqi's faking surrenders to kill coalition forces

-- Iraqi's hiding weapons and other military targets in schools, residential areas and Mosques

Why doesn't the Geneva convention apply in these cases? Why is the UN silent?

It seems to me that the argument of the UN as an anti-American body is valid to a great degree.

Did I miss something?

Wig, if Kofi opens his mouth about Iraq,
he'll have to open his mouth about 1/3 of UN nations,
which are not any different than Iraq was.....
and he is smarter than that not to do it
;-)))

Serge, I can appreciate that. BUT, does that mean that the UN is not anti-American at the core in your opinion?

I have seen a lot of posts from US ppl I respect that seem to support the UN to a certain extent.

I personally am finding it hard to see the validity in this.

Wig,
I personally do NOT see the role of UN and it's importance as it was when it was created..
times changed and I would support the MAJOR overhaul of UN and it's charters and goals
