Bill Provides Help to Fight Child Crimes
By David Brody, Washington, D.C., correspondent

There is a lot more than just the "Amber Alert" to cheer about in the new child crimes bill.

Both the House and Senate last week passed the Child Abduction Prevention Act, which cracks down heavily on sex offenders. The Amber Alert is part of the legislation and has gotten most of the press, but there's a lot more in the bill that will help protect kids.

Joanne Donnellan, with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, said the bill is rich in crackdown material. For example, the bill mandates that if a sex offender is convicted for the second time, he'll get life in prison. Also, child kidnappers would get a minimum sentence of 20 years in jail.

"Children now are going to be protected in a far greater way than they ever have," Donnellan said. "It really does send a strong message that we're not tolerating this type of behavior any more and that if you're going to go out there and harm our children, you're going to be tracked down quickly and you're going to face the harshest penalties."

Bruce Taylor, with the National Law Center for Children and Families, said the bill also calls for 25 extra prosecutors to go after pornographers on the Internet.

"There's a lot of good and great things in there. This is a good day for kids," Taylor said. "Maybe that's going to make or can make the biggest difference in the . . . war to protect children from the porn syndicates, because now we have some troops to go fight this."

And there's more. The bill calls for jail time and fines for any pornographic business that lures kids to its site using misleading domain names. Congressman Mike Pence, R-Ind., likes that idea.

"What we're doing is shutting down also a major method of child predators in having access to our kids," Pence said.

President Bush is expected to sign the bill.

President Bush is expected to sign the bill.

Yay bush! Wee Bush! Wave The Flag! Quote the party line! He's not after pornographers, he's after the bad guys! (is that good? or am i supposed to quote rush limbaugh too?)

Now if he could just beat me in a spelling bee my entire attitude would be changed.

I like how 'pornographers' are thrown into the same category as child kidnappers and sex offenders.

because that's the porn industry's intent, to go out there and harm children.

fuck me, how do we defend ourselves against this garbage?!

It's HARD ............. (fill in your own jokes there)

Actually we can't but
If (what I hope) the minority of people who don't get it yet would get that
A- Pornographers don't want to harm children and there is a WORLD of difference between someone who enjoys adult entertainment and a pedophile - and they are not and never have been the same thing nor should be lumped together

B - Everything is driven by the almighty dollar, kids have no CC's to buy porn, we as pornographers don't want as customers or any type of consumers

Ok now back to your regularly scheduled Oprano programming, I just couldn't let a "Fuck Me" from CJ go .....

p.s. I got .50 that says I'm not the only one :yowsa:

Come now Hoop, the law passed 99-0 in the Senate. This is not George Bush's law.... its ALL politicans law.

Vick - I think you are right. You want my .50 now?

:D

Yeah, but it would have been more like 51-49 if it hadn't been attached to the amber alert bill......

Fucking piggybacking laws to get them passed should be against the law....

Hmmm, maybe have to talk to my senator about piggybacking that one on to a "feed the starving Iraqi children" bill or something

Mike AI

I think it would have passed by a higher margin. There are NO politicans who like pornographers.... They are all dangerous to us. They are ignorant on technology, and will lash out against US to get more votes, to prove they are "doing something for the kids".

*nodding*
It isn't a Rep/Dems thing, it's a porn thing.

Sare if you honestly think that the bill would've been 51-49, just imagine those Dems going home to their town meetings and explaining why they voted against an internet pornography bill... ain't gonna happen. That would be nearly as suicidal as voting against this amber alert bill.

Carrie, you are correct.

We should not be saying its Bush's fault or the Democrats fault, when all politicans hate us.

We should be discussing the details of the bill. How it might be applied, and other important issues that we might actually have to deal with in the future.

I know writing my congressman won't help me out....

Ok maybe a higher margin...

But I would hope that enough of the pols would have common sense enough to see that this law is pretty much the same as regulating "branding" or physical store names...

Part of the domain name laws sounds (excuse me if I misquote, I read the stories yesterday, a lot of brain cells dissolved between then and now) like if you dont explicity have the word "sex" or "porn" or "adult" in the name, that you wcould be open to scrutiny....

If those rules were applied to stores, then Spencer's Gifts would be in trouble, Victoria's Secrets (and Victors) would be in trouble....

A brand name is supposed to grab attention, not describe the product necessarilly... A domain name is a brand name of sorts...

So, I would hope for more common sense, but would not be surprised when I didn't find it....

Every month I get my copy of AVN online and it drives me insane reading it. They have a point of view that democrats are "porn friendly" which is complete nonsense. Neither party is our allie. That's a fact. Millions of people watch porn but would never tell their neighbor they do. When some politician shows up beating his chest about how he's going to stop it those same people will applaud him. Hypocricy at its finest.

B - Everything is driven by the almighty dollar, kids have no CC's to buy porn, we as pornographers don't want as customers or any type of consumers

The logic behind this is in our favor, but there is considered to be a valid argument against our entire industry because of extreme situations which are then used as the basis for laws.

In our porn marketing minds, we register any kind of domain that might have potential for traffic, whether its adult in nature or not. How many of us go and check whether some little company in the middle of nowhere with 10 customers that might happen to have children has the same business name? Should we have to?

Who gets to decide what domains and what se terms the adult industry gets to use in their marketing?

Parents and politicians and christians.

Too many unknowns for my liking, and too many misconceptions about the industry in general.

So which adult company is going to build a .kids children safe network and sell it to disney?!?!?

Dropped domains could be a big problem now ( even though Google is banning them! :( )

The SERPs show highly explicit titles, descriptions and snippets of text..totally adult and highly visible.

Would the fact that they are on a domain that used to be non adult still warrant scrutiny?

I fucking hope not! ..as stated there are thousands of domains out there that clearly show they are adult in nature but the domain names are not.

Mike, is there another link with further detailed clarification?

I thought along those lines so many times, even thought of doing the business/financial/P&L plan for it and shopping it to Disney and if they didn't bite (after their disastrous internet forays - think go.com for starters ) shop it around to other kid friendly companies but having time is a critical issue

Hmmm cheeky :P

Oh, the irony (and the idiocy) of our world, today...
It's legal to kill a child in the womb; BUT
It's wrong to let them find out where they came from.
It's wrong to hurt their little feelings.
It's bad that they should see the footage about the war (some kids have no idea where Daddy went).
Some schools are actually forbidding/removing all references to the word 'gun'.
Sports are being modified so there are no 'losers'.
A Houston woman is being sentenced for spanking her child.
A Houston man is being forced by the court to sleep in the doghouse for punishing his kid.

I am as much against KP as anybody could be; and I will obey the laws regarding access by them to porn; but it just seems kinda strange that 50-60 years ago, we were looking at porn comic books and nobody raised hell.

I distrust all politicians when it comes to legislation and pornography. On average, Republicans are worse on the issue but it's a matter of degree and not kind. What was the last bill that had a negative effect on porn or could have had a negative effect on porn that a president didn't sign?

In recent history, the Supreme Court has been our saving grace, not the executive office.

I think it sucks but at the same time you’ve got this nonconsensual play on marketing to drive in the perverted curious mind. Huge porn sites offering kiddy, then teen, then animals. Then all the taboo and bizarre shit. Unfortunately we get thrown into the mix all the time. When you see all this shit you think the whole industry is full of predators. Then you hear rumors about website owners and producers and you realize that there are a lot of predators among us.

I was talking to a girl the other day that had been approached at least 3 times before she was 18 to model hardcore. Each knowing damn well that she wasn’t 18 yet.

Colin,

good point. Yes the surpreme court has saved our ass, even in the clinton admin.

I do belive though that the right wingers and repubs are quite a bit tougher on our industry, or want to be tougher then most liberals are. Wierd though, as repubs mostly always Preach Less goverment?? :)
