I'm taking bets on how long it will be before we hear from the Atheists:

Georgia Flag proposal (http://www.accessatlanta.com/ajc/metro/politics/0403/04flag.html)

It's all because there's no law on sweet tea....yet :awinky:

YOU don't care, but there are enough morons around here that want to get their names and faces in the news to complain about this. I'm still trying to figure out why a STATE needs a flag!

Maybe you can explain this to me. Maybe not.

I don't get the whole Confederate flag thing. Why would anyone want to hold on to a relic of a long-dead regime that tortured it's own people? :groucho:

So you think the iraqi flag is going to be changed? Im sure they will say the flag is indicative of saddams rule and regime. This might eb a small stretch but I think the whole thing behind not wanting to change the flag would come from all of their ancestors who fought for what they believed in. Whether it was shown to be right or wrong that is important to people and too many things are spun to be "right" so that peoples feelings arent hurt in this PC world we live in.

I don't think the "in god we trust" will fly though since many places cant even say the pledge of allegiance anymore in schools. Although a great arguement for it, is of course as im sure the article pointed out that in god we trust is on every monetary piece we make.

The thing i laught at every sunday is when im watching nascar and they do a benediction :) Noone but the rednecks could get away with that these days. oh and the fact that the drivers really need their prayers

<--- reads articles for the pictures

No. I'm talking about the Confederate States of America.

i know just drawing parallels, persoanlyl i think it should remain as it was since its part of history and isnt necesarrily pointing at one part of history. IE its not a symbol for slavery, its not a symbol for torture, its not a symbol for any one particular thing. Besides a flags a flag, its too bad (not saying you) but some people use it as a scape goat.

I just hope when we kick the Iraqi's ass that we make them realize they've been defeated.

Alright...time to chime in...

The freakin' Rebel Flag has to go...

If you don't think the Rebel Flag is a symbol for racism you are blind. It wasn't intended to be originally; however, that is what it is now. I doubt the Jewish community would have allowed the swastika to remain on a flag (let's say the swastika was on a US State flag prior to WW2). The swastika wasn't originally a sign or racism, but I doubt anyone would argue that the swastika is now very anti-semitic.

[QUOTE]Besides a flags a flag, its too bad (not saying you) but some people use it as a scape goat. [QUOTE]

You are exactly right...it is just a flag. So, what's the big deal with changing it a little to keep up with the times?

I'm an atheist too, and I like the "In God We Trust" better than the Rebel Flag...

It pisses me off a little, because I'm a huge proponent of "Seperation of Church and State" and I personally think that crosses the line a little. But shit...what do I care I don't live in Georgia anyway.

We both know you'll never find it.

Are you a constitutionalist?

Absolutely!

"Congress shall make no laws respecting an establishment of religion; or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

"In God we Trust"

Alright, if I lived in Georgia I'd have to admit I'd be one of the morons to complain. :zoinks:

One of the arguments given for not removing reference to God in the constitution was that it was there 'from the beginning'. Well, if this is a 'new' flag proposal, I don't see the need to make reference to a 'God' when in this day and age, the US considers itself a 'melting pot' and therefore is home to citizens of many different religious beliefs....

I wouldn't bitch enough to get my face in the news though.... :nyanya:

GiGi,
What most people fail to recognize is:
'God' is generic to most religions.
The people hollerin' to get rid of the word are known as Atheists; and Atheism has been recognized as a religion in this country.
By catering to them, those who do so are, in fact, violating everyone else's 1st Amendment rights.
Please note the second phrase of the 1st Amendment:
"or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
and remember that our Constitution is not a statement of what the PEOPLE CAN do; but a statement of what the GOVERNMENT's duties are and what it CANNOT do.
That is where the Lefties in this countries have long worked to change. They want it to be the other way around.

Somebody tell this dumb Okie where in my post I mentioned "Seperation of Church and State" being in the constitution. I've looked I don't see it in my post anywhere. I DID find in my post that I said I was a "proponent" of "seperation of church and state". I can be a proponent of whatever I choose...:nyanya:

I also said that it pisses me off a little. If it's alright with Torone, I think I'll keep being pissed off at whatever the hell I feel like.

All that being said, I don't like that phrase on a state flag...but I like it better than the Rebel Flag.

That is all for now :D
