View Full Version : So Far So Good
Wow. Things seem to be going well: We're sufficiently unsure whether or not Hussein is still alive that we've held back on the shock and awe; nobody appears to be commanding Iraqi forces, which dramatically drops the chances that they'll deploy NBC; and the Iraqis seem glad to see us (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,81784,00.html), if a bit wary.
Now, as I pointed out a while back, Iraq isn't an end unto itself. Iraq is, however, a politically expedient starting point to a whole other end: the destruction of Islamofascism as a political force.
Which is why this (http://www.guardian.co.uk/elsewhere/journalist/story/0,7792,919138,00.html) doesn't particularly surprise me in the least.

Somehow I don't think you mean this ...
For reformists locked in a power struggle with the conservatives, Washington's plan for a military administration in Iraq is not a particularly helpful advertisement for western-style democracy. They fear the US-led war could provide a pretext for conservatives to stage a decisive crackdown against all public criticism.
Dude, that fucking ruled!!!

MikeW that is funny stuff!!
Buff - so far so good. I just hope that Saddam and his troops are not paying possum. Laying down, not doing much, letting us get close so they can pull some type of secret attack - a chemical/bilogical attack or something.
I get nervous when things go to well....
that's what i'm fearful of. This bastard cares about nobody, he couldn't give a shit if all those ragtag soldiers on the exterior of Iraq surrender or get killed. He also knows that Bush will definitely be trying not to kill many civilians and that public opinion around the world and even in the United States isn't that strong for the U.S. So he can just sit there and watch the Shock and Awe assaults destroy palaces and goverment buildings in Baghdad, no doubt he knew this was going to happen so important documents and information is no longer in those buildings.
He knows this is not going to end with him remaining in Iraq so a nutcase like him could have a scorched earth policy, he wants Baghdad full of American troops, bloodshed, and then if he's crazy, just unleash the chemicals.
He couldn't care less if Iraqi citizens get killed in huge numbers, he just wants to see Americans die and Bush look bad. He knows it would be a disaster for Bush if he dropped the big bombs on civilians.
Somebody on GFY commented that Baghdad will become the Arab version of Stalingrad. Same strategy, Hussein is a student of Stalin they say.
He's done, toast, but it just seems too optimistic to think that a man Bush has painted as a brute and madman, with the chemicals and weapons Bush is insistent he does possess would go down with barely a whimper.
So yeah, i think you have to worry about him playing possum. If he's still alive. If he's not alive or seriously injured, this will be over within a week, negotiations are already going on I heard on CNN for the past 24 hours.
