what do people think will really happen?

its going to start soon. in hours maybe.

personally, i dont think it will be a big deal. every military target outside of bagdad will be decimated in hours.

i truly dont believe that the US Military has the intention of going into Bagdad to shoot it out in the streets. Thats just not going to happen. Thats why Saddam pulled all his troops back to Bagdad.

i think a spectacular revolt will take place once people are 100% sure that the US military is moving towards Bagdad and they see all his palaces and other symbols of power being vaporized.

its already been carefully planned for a couple months. The post-Saddam government has already been decided. hopefully, for the Kurds and Shiites the 3rd times a charm.

I think people will be surprised at how MANY Iraqi's feel liberated - especially if things go well with the least number of Iraqi casualties as possible. Hopefully when this is over, it looks like more like the largest police action in the history of mankind rather than one of the most lopsided wars in the history of mankind.

Many Iraqis will also be shocked. Imagine seeing Saddam's face on and in every building, on TV every day, on the front of the newspaper every day of your life .. and then suddenly the Uruk King is gone.

War is never predictable. At best, we quickly get Saddam. At worst, the conflict escalates to a neighbor or two and/or we get caught in the middle of a Civil War.

I voted for "mass Iraqi military surrenders". That much is certain.

I would like to have been able to vote for numerous of the choices. There will be mass surrenders, but I also think there may be a good chance that an internal coup will kill Saddam and his top people. I think there are some people who are wiating for attack to go out on a limb....

To go on a limb before hand would be dangerous.....

I feel there will be a mass surrender... However.... are we underestimating the support for Saddam within Iraq?

What about the other WMD that we haven't found?

I think majority of the iraq army will surrender, some will even join US in fighting Saddam, but he has pleny supporters as well, the people that helped him maintain his regime. These will likely hole up in Baghdad where they anticipate a prolonged siege in which Saddam will try to out-maneuver the US with ' I am so inoccent and helpless' type propaganda.

The main job of US army will be to keep the various factions from taking acts of revenge against the bad guys and create chaos in the region.

There will be US army missions within Baghdad but these will likely be recon and special ops, the hope will be that Saddam will be dealt with internally and give the Iraqis a feeling of ownership over their fate and dilute the feeling they are being invaded.

In any case most Iraqis will welcome anyone that overthrows Saddam, I have heard this from the mouths of many Iraqis in the Us, but US will seriously have to check some of the arrongance the world accuses us of, if we expect the new Iraqis to be our friends.

i personally dont think there will be much fighting in Bagdad if any.

taking it that far in terms of fighting will be the ultimate political and humanitarian disaster and everyone involved knows that. i think we are going to be very suprised at a massive coup/revolt once the US has made a strong show of force.
