All news is written by reporters, news anchors, writers, etc. So there's ALWAYS going to be a bias involved because there's always going to be a human and his or her opinion involved in the telling of the story. It's virtually impossible to be completely emotionally removed from a story. I just try to get as many facts as possible from as many different sources and then try and form my OWN opinion. :)

Forest, best think you can do is click over to msnbc for a while, then over to cnn for a while, and then come back - you will get three sides of the story, and you can get a better idea what is really going on.

Each one has their "slant", once you learn to subtract that from the stories (by comparing the different sources) you will find you are better informed.

If you want a real laugh, watch Dan Rather and Tape the NBC nightly news... then compare them story for story. The slant is so obvious at times...

It is well known that I recommend "external" media - check out the BBC news channel from time to time... a very different view of things.

Good advice...and I agree with Peaches...there's always some bias involved...everybody's gotta stick their finger in the pie and spoil it in some way.

I don't trust the media. Period. Switching channels - and websites - for info is the best way to get the most well-rounded version of the story.

I never turn to Fox news unless there is something big happening - the last time I did so was shortly after 9/11. It's not just their political tilt to the far right (see endorsement above - Communist News Network?); they also tend to oversensatinalize EVERYTHING.

I like all the news hotties they've put on the air in recent years... :inlove: :inlove:

Seriously though, I do try to use a bunch of different news sources. http://news.google.com is pretty good. They group articles from many many sources so it's convenient...

Competition is so steep - ALL cable news channels pump the hell out of every story, and make it much bigger then it really is. That is the down size to mutlible channels of 24 hour news....

Mike, it isn't only the pumping to make a story bigger than it is, it is the endless talking heads expressing opinions without fact. You can learn alot about a network by the guests they use in the filler "no fact" segments.

Preference for news to be news, opinion to be opinion. Mixing them together creates confusion.
