Threads vs. flat-board, How did it work out? Everyone like this better? Anyone still like the old flat-board better?

Oprano powers that be,

Any comments from the biz side?

Colin,
today Oprano's threaded board is #2 board out there,
GFY is #1

I say going threaded was a right thing to do.

Don't throiw numbers at me which show other webmaster sites which have resources,
as their stats show cummulitive traffic to all their pages,
GFY and Oprano have no resources,
I talk about "Board Activity" only

Lol. I have no interest in such things. Oprano is my #1 mistress regardless.

Personaly though, I prefered the flat board.
It meant you couldn't miss a day without some serious 'catch up' reading,
but you never missed anything or anybody either!

I've found that flat boards are great for "conversation", but for different topics, I personally think threaded boards are easiest to read and keep up with. There are good and bad for both, but I prefer threaded! :rokk:

I orginally hated threaded boards, because the posts never stayed on subject, and a lot of the silly posts made on threaded boards would never be made on a flat board. So there was more 'stuff to go through.

However, I have mellowed and accepted threaded boards as part of the progress needed for the survival of a lot of the boards. It does keep subject matter (for the most part) in threads you can choose from. There are good and bad..... I feel 50 - 50 .

FLat board was easier to follow, especially for me- since I read Oprano all the time. It definately made the board look busier...

However the threaded board is much better for those who are not Opranauts, those who only stop by once a day to read the topics they are most interested in, or they run a search for topics they are interested in.

It is more orginized, and hence the posts are spread out.... I am sure I miss some things, which sucks.... cause I do not read every post on the threaded board....

Overall threaded board was a good move....

But as I always say, its not the software that makes a board successful - it is the people who frequent it and post - which means YOU! :okthumb:

OH yeah and I like the little smilies and such :zoinks: :nyanya: :bwave: :bjump: :bdance:

I despise flat boards... if it's not threaded, I won't read it. There is one other good flat board out there that I really like, but it's so much effort (and eye strain) to keep up with it that I just don't bother any more.

yeah, I can't do flat boards either. I don't want to spend all day trying to connect the dots between related posts.

I'm glad you brought this up Colin. I like the threaded board. I liked the other board too, but I feel more involved in the threaded board.

I am glad that it is one or the other. I have a hard time these days at Netpond, because I forget about the flat board and it looks like that is where the activity is these days.

One problem, I like to search threads that I have posted in so that I can respond to whatever ridiculous statement I made. The search engine does not work with my nick "T-Rav"...so God knows how many times I have forgotten to reply to a thread...

I'm a hold out, flat board was better.

Certain places have always required a threaded board for obvious reasons but some shouldn't.

I didn't like the threaded board at first ... but it's grown on me.

the beauty of the flat board was that i could come and post some unrelated shit, stupid post, or a link to a news story without creating a new thread for it.

Fucking Kiss Ass! :D

The move to threaded board in hindsight was an extremely good one. Who would have thunk it.

pros:
* i can skip football talk
* more activity
* i'm addicted to the control panel features - very cool
* smilies. the smilies rock.
* its easier to have multiple discussions about different subjects

cons:
* topics NEVER stay on the subject, because we 'chat' in between
* it is TOO time consuming catching up on threads, instead of refreshing once to see new posts, you have to keep clicking around for hours
* i miss important information because its under a thread called 'why i wear red underwear' or some shit
* GFY webmasters come to oprano now, whereas they stayed away from the flat board

but overall, i'm converted
i hated it at first, now i can't imagine going back and having to give up the dancing fruit

i like threaded boards.

if you look at GFY as an example, you know who certain people are and who you would be interested in hearing what they say and who you would not be... you can go right to what threads, posts/topics interest you.

i think that flat boards also discourage a lot of people from posting because it can be a little intimidating to say something knowing that all eyes are on you.

the bananas are happy.
in the end, thats all that matters

Yep, and I used to love seeing a post and then scrolling back to figure out what it was about, boy things could get misconstrued in the whackiest ways on the flat board!

We've found entirely new ways for things to become misconstrued now.
