Daniel Libeskind has been named the architect of the new WTC site design.

The spire will make the hallmark building of the design 1,776 feet tall. Can't forget that number.

The tallest building in the world will once again be in New York.

Go here and click "Interactive: The winning plan" to see a nice model of the new skyline.

No, actually he's a Pole who went to school in the US, but now lives in Berlin.

"I never forgot that skyline and what it means to an immigrant, an American. It's not just a symbol. It's not just something up in the air. It's about the values that we all share," Libeskind said in the interview.

Yes, very nice design. Especially the part where the building won't cast any shadows between 8:46 and 10:28 am on September 11th.

A good friend of mine in on the THINK team that lost and I hear the Libeskind design won because it can be built in stages, and the towers come last,

but they don't really intend on building so much space in lower manhattan, esp tall towers. So the design is there to placate the public.

bummer.
