View Full Version : Cross Sales Are Everywhere
Was just ordering some flowers to be delivered, on 1800flowers.com -- so I place the order, pay and then BAM! up pops a window that had an offer for Time, Sports Illustrated or something else in this window -- my other info -- including the cc number -- was pre-populated!
Now if they don't share a merchant account I simply do not understand how they can do that.
And the likelihood of them sharing a merchant account isn't very good either... though I guess it's possible.
That's a one up on most adult cross sales, one small click and you just added 60 bucks onto an already decent sized sale for the flowers...

Yeah but on most adult sites these days, you don't even have to do one click to get fucked good on cross-sales. It's a bunch of fine print check boxes, already PRE checked, for extra $39.95/month memberships. I see tons of sites & programs now, where if the surfer signs up for a site and doesn't notice those pre-checked boxes, he's agreeing to $120/month in charges. It's almost the norm these days it seems.
That happened to me over the holidays - was ordering gifts for my nieces and it popped up like that offering me Time, Newsweek, etc. - must be some program with the magazines and everyone is doing it. I must say I was shocked to see my cc info already in the form. I don't mind a little cross marketing, but a that was way BEYOND where they should have gone IMHO.
It didn't make sense to me how they could do it - if it doesn't make sense to you then I'm sure something is wrong here...hopefully they'll get busted for it but geez a headline like "1800Flowers gets busted for foul cross sales tactics" doesn't read as interesting as "Porn site gets busted for legal content" - I mean, which paper would you buy? Which would Joe Public buy?
Now if they were cross selling Hustler or Playboy....mayyyyyybeeeee.....
To make it more interesting, I was ordering another floral to be sent elsewhere and did it with a different card -- this time in addition to the magazine popup I also got a
Verified by Visa popup before the transaction went thru --
Nice little javascript box with the B of A logo in it and the instructions for getting verified... not sure it's something that B of A is doing, 1800 flowers is doing (tho they didnt do it with the Mastercard I used the first time) or just who is behind it...
I said No, Thanks and it processed the transaction normally and without a hitch.

Yahoo Stores have been offering cross sale in their stores since October as well.

KK, the voting issue won't be till June. mainstream is so god damn slow. no wonder you have to work 40 years to make it to the top - it takes 6 months to do something that could be thrown together in a weekend!! :awinky: :P
