Yup ... here's the heavily abridged version:
If those dudes they call 'bug chasers' actually WANT to be infected with the hiv virus ... then GIVE it to them, they DESERVE to die a slow miserable death. One less idiot on planet earth.
I think that about covers it ;-))))

I think it would be really great if the people who posted links to articles at least gave us a short description and the jist of it.

That article didn't need to be that lengthy.
Basically it talks about a subculture of gay men who seek out to infect themselves with HIV (Bugchasers) and those who seek to give (giftgivers). It also talks about another subculture called bare-backers, people who have sex without condoms.
It’s suicide.
I told my son this years ago, "Treat everyone like their HIV postive and you'll never get aids."
Safe sex is the only way.

Ever heard of Peter Duesberg (http://www.duesberg.com/)? He argues that HIV is not the cause of AIDS. He has some support within the scientific community most notably Kerry Mullis who won a Nobel Prize for inventing PCR technique and 1980 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry Walter Gilbert.

No but I find it interesting especially since I know dozens of people (most gay males) who have died from AIDS & all HIV +

This is interesting too.
There is no AIDS test. AIDS is DEFINED as one of many diseases PLUS HIV. In other words, anyone with one of a number of conditions plus HIV is defined as having AIDS. According to the CDC guidelines, if you have one of these conditions and are not HIV+ you do not have AIDS - so everyone with AIDS you ever meet will be HIV+ by CDC guidelines definition.
If you have lymphoma of the brain and ae HIV-, you have lymphona of the brain.
If you have lymphoma of the brain and ae HIV+, you have AIDS.
If you go to a club and the door guy is in only letting in blonde people, it shouldn't surprise you that there are only blonde people in the club.

so when somebody develops full blown aids, they have actually acquired a disease additional to HIV?
what defines the types of diseases that count?
i can never understand fetishes which cause permanent harm to a person ... like the people who get turned on by having limbs removed etc ...
Condoms and safe sex are openly ridiculed on bug-chasing Web sites, with many bug chasers rebelling against what they see as the dogma of safe-sex education; constantly thinking about a deadly disease takes all the fun out of sex, they say, and condoms suck. Carlos agrees and says getting HIV will make safe sex a moot point. "It's about freedom," he says. "What else can happen to us after this? You can fuck whoever you want, fuck as much as you want, and nothing worse can happen to you. Nothing bad can happen after you get HIV."
I give this justification some ... not credit, but it makes sense ... the types of people who they are talking about here are sex junkies - those who love to fuck, as often as possible. Basically their lives don't feel complete if they can't freely have sex without restrictions. <_< :(
I wonder what happens after they get it, and then in 10 years meet someone who they want to be with but now they have hiv and their new partner doesn't ...

And of course, now a dispute:

And for DV: It says people are disputing the article :awinky:

CJ,
You statement is PRECISELY correct.
In the US there are 25 diseases that when paired with a minimal HIV count a person will be diagnosed as having AIDS. There is no common thread among the disease that when combined with HIV are defined as AIDS.
so basically a successful treatment is anything that prevents those 25 diseases from forming in the body for as long as possible?
it doesn't seem like a scary disease these days, but I remember in the 80's, there were these ads on tv that had a bowling ball rolling down a back alley knocking over people who were dressed as bowling pins ...
another one had a couple having sex, then it zoomed out to 1000's of beds all interconnected with partners ...
we were taught lots of stuff at school like 'its ok to shake hands with a person with aids' and 'not all gay people have aids' <_<
but NOTHING about the disease itself and how it actually kills someone
peaches, i'd be disputing it too if I was a regular gay citizen with aids/hiv and it was being reported that 25% of gay men with aids/hiv CHOOSE to contract it ... those who contracted hiv accidentally would be more disgusted than we are.

Yeah. Don't get pneumonia, don't get cancer, don't get tuberculosis.
The issue is further complicated by the fact that the diseases that are combined with HIV in the definition are expanded from time to time causing the number of AIDS cases to jump. For example, in 1992 the definition was expanded to include TB, pneumonia, and cervical cancer.
This doesn't change the fact that you don't want HIV and tuberculosis together. It's just kinda silly to say A causes B when B is defined by A.

I had heard of the bug chasers, I guess it's just a way to commit slow suicide. I can think of better ways to do that.
And yes, I knew the difference between AIDS and just being HIV positive..I thought everyone did these days.
It's good to educate people on this disease.
And Peaches, great advice to your son. We should all assume everyone is positive and protect ourselves, unless you're sure that the person you're with hadn't had sex in years...like one of my ex's lol.

Well, I DID collect butterflies as a kid. Mom thought I would either be gay or a scientist. I almost went the science route and never considered the other path. Last year when I was in San Juan I bought some butterflies from The Butterfly People (http://www.butterflypeople.com/gallery.htm). None of them were HIV positive.
