After posting that I'm an Aries in another thread...I started thinking about the rest of you and what your signs are.

Based on the online persona of some of the Oprano regulars that I've either met or have gotten enough 'vibes' out of their posts, I've come up with a list of what sign -I- feel your online persona portrays....hehe [hey, it's Sunday night and I'm feelin' cheaky...] :awinky:

Serge - Air sign - Gemini.

MikeAI - Earth sign - Capricorn.

Colin - Earth sign - I'd lean towards Virgo....(but I know you were talking about some 'new' sign that you are??)

Dianna Vesta - Water sign - Scorpio. -OR- Fire sign - Leo.

KK - Water sign - Pisces. -OR- Water sign - Scorpio.

Voodooman - Fire sign - Aries. (but I think I already know you are an Aries??)

Torone - Earth sign - Taurus. (maybe it's just because of your name...hehe)

Peaches - Water sign - Cancer.

Sykkboy - I'd like to say Water sign - Scorpio.....but I think it's more Cancer?

CJ - Fire sign - Leo

PornoDoggy - Air sign - Aquarius.

But you are a fire sign....interesting. Sag is one before Cap....what's your B-Day? Are you cusp?

I didn't expect to be correct with my guesses....it's just what I see from everyone's posts online....I figure everyone's online persona is different than their 'true' nature.....at least I am. (I think...lol)

The earth wobbles in it's orbit so the sun wasn't in the constellations most of us think of as "our sign" when we were born.

The sun was in Ophiuchus when I was born.

Astrology isn't based on the real position of the earth and stars. It's based on fixed dates that have no correspondance to reality anymore. Of course, the Chaldeans had no idea of this when they invented or at least popularized astrology.

Here is a modern table of where the sun is for various dates. Compare it to your own sign and you will see your sign is likely different than the one given in the old tables copied and recopied from ancient times. These are only approximate as there is slight annual variation.

Interesting though...I had a reading done many years ago as a joke by my exact birth date, etc. not by my sign (which I thought was Cancer - and those traits perfectly fit me BTW) - and it warned me about a Virgo who would "come into my world, steal my heart and become my life." Hub (whom I thought was a Libra according to the old chart) always teased me about "Sancho the Virgo" - the guy I must be seeing when he's at work. lol Now I find out that in this new chart my hubby is actually a Virgo! :inlove: :inlove:

Don't worry. Astrologers still use the positions of the planets from about 2000 years ago to determine signs. The ones I posted are true in the sense that the sun is REALLY in those constellations at present during those months. The astrological signs that can be looked up in astrology books and the real physical location of stars, planets, the earth, moon and sun are actually different. The ones we use were first set down mostly bythe Greeks Hipparchus and Ptolemy. Ptolemy was certainly a first-rate astronomer and mathematician for the times.
Your "sun sign" is the constellation the sun was in around 200 AD; Ptolemy's time.

I used to own zodiacsigns.com I just learned I let it expire. :-(

That chart makes me a pisces.

And yes, Sag is a fire sign.

Gigi,

Those are all interesting articles. It is true that you can mentally reset the zodiac on the vernal equinox to Aries. Of course, that is a mental point only and has no correspondence to the physical world.

A few errors I read.

1. Ophiuchus and Hercules are actually separate and distinct contellations, not the same one.

2. Ophiuchus cannot have been discovered. Constellations are defined, not found. They have no basic in reality as a unit. Stars in two separate constellations may very well be and often are closer to each other than stars that are in the same constellation. We are effectively viewing three dimensional space in two dimensions.

There are actually times when the Sun is not in any constellation. Consider that constellations don't overlap. One could argue that astrology deals with symbolic relationships only and that there is no correspondence between astrology and astronomical objects. Of course, then the question is why would one refer to astronomical objects at all? Why not just use dates?

Of course, then the question is why would one refer to astronomical objects at all? Why not just use dates?

Symbols have been used for thousands of years to help people relate to different concepts. It would be easy to say that the constellations and what they represent were used to help people understand the concept behind astrology. They could have just as easily chosen tree species, I suppose, or anything that the people of the time could relate to....and at that time, it was nature and the 'stars' that were prominent in people's lives.
