so banners clicks look like 50-50 proposition,
what about text links?

I like text links because they give me an idea where I'm going. Banners, lately...

The text links in the header are a bit small in my opinion, though overall I click more on nicely written textlinks than banners.

At the moment I have accounts with two, work for one and don't need more hosting. But yes ,I would click on them if they were something I haven't already signed up for.

I agree. Too small and they don't really give information.

so far..
40% of GFY and 40% of Oprano doesn't click on NEW banners
but ONLY 28% doesn't click on TEXT LINKS

I pretty much already know all these companies so not likely to click on them. They are in mind though and if the time comes for a change I would probably be more likely to switch to them than if the links and banners weren't there.
