A middle school teacher asked a female student for oral sex, spoke with his class about lewd acts like "tea bagging" and "fish eye," and tried to entice an eighth grader to smoke pot with him, according to police. Jason Abbott, who was fired last month from his job at East Middle School in Auburn, New York, was charged January 2 with four misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child (the case against Abbott, 28, is based on graphic witness statements made by three of his former female students, copies of which you'll find below). When cops questioned Abbott about his classroom behavior, he acknowledged some of his revolting behavior, but claimed, "I have never been sexually inappropriate with a female student." The names of Abbott's former students were redacted from the reports by the Auburn Police Department. (5 pages)

How did this person ever get a position as an educator?

and how do we stop someone who is obviously not fit to be an educator from ever being in a position of trust and abusing that trust and their position?

That is absolutely disgusting. The sad thing is, I'll bet this guy has another teaching position in a different school district within a year.

Unfortunately, private schools aren't much better. We did that route for 2 years and it was an awful experience. I hear the Charter programs give parents much more control over what is taught and who is teaching it. That might be an option.

We've been homeschooling for almost 7 years - it's not easy, but it's worth it. Every time I read a story like this I'm SO thankful that we had the guts to start this early on. Just the damage from 2 years private and 1 semester public has been difficult to overcome.

It's a damned shame.

We are considering the home schooling route but do have concerns with the socialization and social skills being in a public or private school may present ... any input please Kath

Of course I've said it 1,000 times and will say it 1,000,000 more
If you choose public or private schooling it is their secondary education
Their primary education is at home

My son was in a charter school and it was EXCELLENT.

And I 2nd your private school opinion - that's where I went and I can tell you it's just as bad as far as student AND teacher behavior. The teachers that AREN'T crackpots are usually better, but not always :(

Anyone know of any gay pornstars that are *really* hung? I mean hung like Ron Jeremy or bigger?
Wonder how much $$ they'd need to grab this guy in a bar and give him a nice rough personal fish-eye experience. Maybe a few of the pornstar's friends, too.
We could make it a special episode of Baitbus.

Very well put. Excellent. I love hearing that.

Well, homeschooling isn't for everyone - and those who do it are never 100% confident that they are doing the best they can, but it's that doubt that pushes us to do more, learn more and be the best for our kids that we can. That being said....

There are a MILLION ways to get your kids socialization. That should be the least of your worries. Soccer, baseball, basketball, community art classes, museum programs, community volunteer work, scouting, church, community groups, off-campus courses and sporting clubs, family, neighbors....the list goes on and on. Everyone says the socialization is a big deal, but for us it just hasn't been.

My worry? Is what to do when my son hits Calculus! lol
(We've already found weekend community college courses that will help us in this area - so I'm really TOO worried <g>)

If you want any more info or anything just let me know. I have huge FOLDERS of links, legal info, educational techniques, online courses, correspondence programs, etc. Before I got into this end of the biz I used to run a huge homeschooling resource site that I eventually sold off because it got too big to manage. lol

Kath - much thanks!!
Hope you don't mind if I keep you in mind and ask for the info you've offered when we get a little further along
Sebastian is only 18 months now so our primary focus is working on further developing verbal skills and recognition

Kath, it's good that you have the patience to do home schooling. I have all the patience in the world with other people's kids I just seem to have none with mine.

Trust me there's a lot more going on in public school then anyone could ever know.

This happened locally.. One of the bad parts? the teach is 71 years old?
