The Rev. Al Sharpton,

"I am running for president to finally put the issues concerning most Americans on to the front burner," Sharpton said.

"I'm qualified, probably more qualified than any other person who is expected to be on the Democratic ticket for 2004, because I actually have a following and I speak for the people."

I wonder if he's just to fuckin' dumb to know that that is because the PEOPLE elect the President, not the damned loudmouthed minority gangsters like him and JJ...

Torone,

While I will admit he has changed some of his ways, he used to be pretty hard core, and doesn't speak for most of the democratic party. but you could of said Gangster ways, I don't care if he is a "minority" or not.

If we could only get Sec. Powell over to the dems, damm a sure winner :)

Sykk,
If you Dems want to win, I got a feeling you're gonna have to do two things...Dump the Socialist/Communist agenda (there isn't a Socialist or Communist country in the world today that doesn't depend in some way on the good old evil USA); and get rid of certain liars and the double standard. As for Powell, He's just a little too peacenik for my tastes.

The UK has many socialist policies. Sure, there are downsides but it also means when I am sick I don't have to worry about being able to afford to the doctors. As I am sure you are aware, socialist and communist are not the same thing.

I can't believe that anyone who can read and write well enough to post here would make that statement. You confuse Communism and totalitarianism. Look up the definitions of Communism and Socialism.

COMMUNISM:

\Com"mu*nism\, n. [F. communisme, fr. commun common.] A scheme of equalizing the social conditions of life; specifically, a scheme which contemplates the abolition of inequalities in the possession of property, as by distributing all wealth equally to all, or by holding all wealth in common for the equal use and advantage of all.

Note: At different times, and in different countries, various schemes pertaining to socialism in government and the conditions of domestic life, as well as in the distribution of wealth, have been called communism.

SOCIALISM

So"cial*ism\, n. [Cf. F. socialisme.] A theory or system of social reform which contemplates a complete reconstruction of society, with a more just and equitable distribution of property and labor. In popular usage, the term is often employed to indicate any lawless, revolutionary social scheme.

communism relies on a one party state to achieve its goals, socialism does not. In theory (and I know it is easy to make things look good in theory) I see nothing at all wrong with making sure no one goes hungry, with the idea of helping out those in need. It is the implementation of those theories where things can go wrong.

I would still rather have the socialised health care. I grew up in the States (and I love it very much) and I know what it is like to not go to the doctor because you can't afford it.

Torone ... you still pedaling that happy horse (or Bull) shit? That crap is so dried up it could be used as a weapon in Iraq or Afghanistan. It was old. outdated, and discredited when Bill Clinton was dodging the draft and GW was missing Reserve weekends. Only the truly paranoid or devoultly delusional believe that the Democratic Party in the United States stands for anything remotely resembling socalism or communism. Kindly spare me your patented Miriam-Torone Dicshunary definistions of the words -

I mean, I can understand why Rush Limbaugh pushes it - it's for ratings. He suckers in morons gullible enough to buy into it so that they'll also buy more Gold Bond Medicated Powder, the Vitamin C that Larry King is pushing, and maybe some godforsaken "health" creame guaranteed to be 9% Emu - no shit, I heard it advertised on the radio today. That whole pitch has a certain appeal to the crowd that also believes they have been kidnaped by aliens, that the WWF (or whatever they're calling themselves today) is real, and secretly believes that MOST of the National Enquirer is real too, but the mainstream media is too controlled by "them" to admit it.

And as for Powell being a "peacenik" (really groovy phrase there, daddy-o), you are sadly mistaken again. He fought for his alma matter in the turf war over how the war in Iraq would be fought. Granted, by arguing for colition-building and consultation with other nations (not to mention making sure the Army got a large piece of the upcoming party) he does qualify as being on the "peace side" in the new order...

i think that Colin Powell is really awesome. A very balanced, intelligent, mature and cool headed person. i think it would be awesome if he ran for president.

People can dislike Bush all they want, make fun of his intelligence, remarks about failed business, daddy etc etc... but i think its a tough case to make to say that he did not surround himself with some very bright and competent people.

You just defined totalitarianism. A lot of people like yourself make that mistake...

In other words, you prefer to trade freedom for mediocre medical care. I think I mentioned what happened to my LATE brother-in-law in Canada's Socialized medicine system...

Pd,
Only a fuckin' moron believes otherwise. Read their agenda and goals. As for Powell, he IS at least a true American.

As for my use of the word 'peacenik', i just figured out that you people are again trying to control the language, so I use my era's terms. Don't like it? Sorry about that, chief!

i don't know about Canada's health care but the UK one has saved the life of two of my relatives. One of which happened to be an American visiting me. They were saved and didn't have to pay anything. A pretty good thing since they wouldn't have been able to afford it if they had to pay for it.

Even if it isn't perfect I would rather everyone gets some medical care than the majority go without any.

Just pass me another tree to hug.

Torone,

I believe Marx said "Religion is the opium of the masses". Actually he said some sane things along with the BS and this is one of them.
