I'd gotten notice from USAir that select airports would be doing this, and now SW is saying ALL airports they fly out of.

Glad I read it, since a printed itinerary does NOT constitute a security document according to their website, and you cannot print the security docs out more than the day before the flight...

I thought it had been this way for quite some time? I know the Atlanta airport says you can't go through security without ID and a boarding pass.

Then again, I always get my BP at the curbside checkin, so maybe they've been letting folks in with a printed itinerary?

Yep, if you aren't checking luggage you've always been able to bypass the ticket counter etc with an itinerary and a photo id.

Getting there is easy, since it doesn't start til the 7th... getting home has never been easy from Vegas lol, I don't know why I let this aggravate me. Given that I either don't have a return flight or am frantically trying to find a return flight a couple hours before I want to come home, I am soooooo used to the drill.

Southwest did make it easier this summer when they started giving out those numbers at curbside or the ticket counter since no one knew and would always try not to check bags so they could get to the gate and get a low number, I guess those days are over lol ;)

And of course I'm on America West this trip at the moment.

Looks like I might stay on AW too, they don't seem to be doing it quite the same way at the moment...

Everytime I fly through the US and do a stop over in NY I get pulled aside for a security check.

I'm 52 Angl-Saxon and a business man. Your Arab looking student gets let through because they are scared of "Racial Profiling"

What's the point?

Yeah it's great isn't it.
The 70 year old grandmother is getting stripped searched and the Pakistani tour group breezes onto the plane.
I see it every time.
I think I would rather have the grandmother come at me with a box cutter personally.

Guess I am with you Peaches...... I thought you had to have a boarding pass already. I guess that is because I have NEVER been able to fly without checking luggage. Must be because i stay too long to make a carry on do.

I am curious about the new machines they started yesturday at all the airports; that looks at ALL your luggage that is checked. Anyone went through this yet? Dave said that they already had them in Hawaii, and you were required to stay with your checked luggage unitl it went through the machine & all baggage was subject to search on the spot. Was this just Hawaii, or is it that way everywhere now?

The have been doing this at DFW for the past year.
It was random before, but I always get selected.
They call over an agent at the counter to walk you and your bag to the xray machine. They make you stand there while they run it through.
If anything looks out of sorts, they bring you and your bag behind a little divider and take almost everything out.
The whole process without additional searching takes about 5 minutes if the line is short. If everyone does this now, the wait to get on the plane is going to take forever.

I am ready this trip.. I have put some cheese into my shoes and left them outside for about a week so they are smelling real nice !! They are old shoes which I can throw away when I get to Vegas so let them tell me to take off my shoes this time !!

Billy, you should have stuffed them with some crawfish as well. That would have been a nice touch. :biglaugh:

Hey, America demanded more safety on its flights and this is what it gets. Personally I know it is all public relations BS. If someone wants to hijack a plane they will do it, there is always a way. They want to blow it up, they can do it from the ground... All our security stuff we have to go through now is to make politicians look like they were hot shit to demand action, and to make your average schmuck flier feel safer.

In the paper today they had a writeup about longer waits because of the scanner machines. I guess the larger airports are a real mess.... so, be ready!!!!

I have found that when flying first class in most airports, you still only needed an hour most places, but this new wrinkle could cost lot's of delays, no matter what class.

OK, here's todays firsthand update, had to put my son on the plane back to school. He flew SW.

They are not xraying all bags, only people who are picked for screening. My son had a one way ticket since I wasnt sure he was leaving from PHX or that he might go to my moms and go back from there. So his luggage got xrayed. They don't -- in Phx -- make you stay with your bag while they do this.

Oddly enough, there was NO search at the gate, not even a crew there. The gate agent said they were spot searching specific flights now, not every flight.

Odd.

This is why I love shows in Vegas....I don't have to fly anywhere :)

I hated airports before and hate them even more now. Although, I haven't flwon sicne the haircut, I wonder if that'll help as far as me getting asked to step into the little room. The ime I flew with my dreads was a bit intense...they decided not to do the full body cavity search afterall (despite my begging and pleading (hey the lady who was rifling through my underthings was a hottie))
