OK. i'll admit it. I'm a wee bit tipsy on some of the fantastic single malt that WTS dropped under my christmas tree.... but despite that i've got a fair question for everybody.

What do you think the breakdown of income as a percentage of the adult industry is?

So I'll start and would love to hear everybody's thoughts.

I would venture to guess that the major breakpoints and percentages are:

* 90% earn less than $1k per month
* 5% earn $1k - $5k
* 3% earn $5k - $10k
* 1.4% earn $10k - $80k
* .05% earn $100k - $500k per month
* .01% earn more than $500k per month

Am I way off or right on?

Also what % of the revenue makers are from what sector of the industry?

i think you're about right on the very top end, actually you might be close on all of it. i guess you are including everybody even those who are on free hosts and might only put in a night a week at it. 90% make less than 12 thousand a year? Hmmmmmmmmm......what if u got rid of part-timers, just people who at least put in like 35 hours a week doing something in the business.

Hooper,
why don't you run a poll to find out?

I think Oprano's %% are different from what you posted,
especially in the higher earnings category

serge, the poll would only give you the ability to make one choice. this is a very subjective question.

i think you're right mutt.. taking away the part timers would change things signifcantly.. but part timers keep us all being called the "cream of the crop" and my ego cant take a demotion ;-)

i am really curious what your personal numbers would be. ignore what i posted. make up your own. how many people make 1mil+ a month in this biz still? how many people 100k+ a month?

i'm certain oprano numbers are not representative of the industry.. i think those numbers would be interesting too... how do opranauts make when you break it down in a % as i did above?

Hooper you have to remember there are a lot of individuals who are doing this part time, but also most people in this business are on their own. A lot of the big guys are companies, and these companies have people who are paid a variety of salaries.

I know first hand I have guys making from $8.00 and hour, all the way to mid 6 figures.... OF course that leaves me like 44 cents a day - but if a starving child in Africa can live on that, surely I can!
:D

I would imagine the statistical breakdown is a LOT like the entire work force for the nation.... numbers tend to work out like that.

... I think you forgot about the high flyers at gfy ?? let me correct that chart ...

* 80% earn less than $50
* 10% earn $50 - $1k per month
* 5% earn $1k - $5k
* 3% earn $5k - $10k
* 1.4% earn $10k - $80k
* .05% earn $100k - $500k per month
* .01% earn more than $500k per month

Nick, I mean, like, duh, man, it's BOTH. GFY is on the 'net, and it tends to be pretty gross.

I've been intimate with each of these groups since starting.. (DAMN I love this business)

Mike, if you're paying someone mid 6 figures that doesn't have to put up with the things related to owning your own business - I can learn that job and do it for 25k/year less :lol:

Possibly related to topic on some twisted level of my mind:

Financially, people speak of "classes" Upper-middle class and such..

Are there any actual figures that define these classes? I've never understood what income level defines someone living at any particular class. Anyone?? :blink:

Thanks,
-Dennis :bwave:

Trust an American to believe class is based on earnings :)

I believe the UN do it on education.I'll try and look it up.

Menace, I have loyalty to my guys - especially those who have been with me from day one. These are people who were helping me start the business back in 1996 and did not take any salary for months.

Not only that, but I would never trade my chief staff for anyone!!

Marty, your quesion is a good one. I have not gone through my final year end numbers yet, but I can tell you that I made less in 2002 then I did in 2001. I also made less in 2001 then I did in 2000.

Nothing ever comes close to 1999 and 2000.

2003 will be a challenging year. We are working hard to keep our marketshare, but also look for new revenue streams...

Non adult for us rocketted in 2002 making up for decline of adult in 2002.

Our indications of 2003 is that it will be the best year ever for us in both adult and nonadult. :)

Wow what a testimonial it must be or the company I must keep, but I am not currently friendly with anyone in this business who does under $20,000 a month......

I guess that means that my friends have all done ok this year , or they are getting great email lists from someone :bwave:

LOL

About the same here, 2002 was not as good as 2001 However its has picked up for us in the latter part of the year. We are busting our balls to make 2003 a better year than the last one. But that is just a normal business plan ! :okthumb:
