Millions and millions for Net porn

WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- Web users subscribing to online pornography sites paid as much as $800 million this year to ogle photos or download movies and audio files.

A report by the National Research Council estimates between 2 million and 8 million subscribers to such sites paid between $40 and $100 for a year.

Authors Dick Thornburgh and Herbert S. Lin gathered information about the bsizeb of the online adult entertainment business as part of a book, "Youth, Pornography and the Internet." They said the industry in the U.S. generates as much as $1 billion total, including Web site advertisements, product sales and age verification services.

As many as 1,000 U.S. firms operating as "genuine business enterprises" run the ventures, the report said, with another 9,000 or so operating as affiliates of other established adult entertainment firms. The report also said a majority of subscribers cancel after the first month.

800milion a year? can that really be all? is that not counting foreign countries to usa?

estimated between 2 million and 8 million subscribers ... 2 million a year is 5479 signups a day .... 8 million is 21917 signups a day ...

i guess 8 would be right nick ... wonder where this person did their research?!!??!?
