Are they the same as the list put out by the American Film Institute?

Most of them haven't come out in the UK yet but we will be seeing Twin Towers on Friday.

Twin Towers is my only hope.

I dunno. It only has to be the bets movie THIS year and if all the rest sucked! ;-)
It's been a slow movie year.
I will like Two Towers best ;-)
"Catch me if you Can" is a great story. I read the book as a kid and was fascinated. The movie is directed by Spielberg and stars DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, and Christopher Walken. Release date: Dec 25. I have high hopes.

I just watched "In the Bedroom". While not the best movie I've ever seen, it certainly was good. :bjump:
And no, MBFGW wasn't something I'd consider "excellent film making", but it was sweet and funny, and sometimes that's all I want at the movies. :D

I just read Catch Me if You Can! I thought it was poorly written but a GREAT story. I can't wait to see it too :) Igby Goes Down and Frida were really good. I cant wait to see Adaptation, the follow up to Being John Malkovich.

I have to admit that I didn't "get" that movie. :( It was a clever concept, but about 2/3 of the way through, I got bored with it. I don't think I'm smart enough to enjoy those intelickshual type movies

For movies that came out THIS year (2002) I would go with these.
Star Trek: Nemesis- Easily one of, the not the, best Trek movies they have ever made. Tom hardy does a GREAT job as the villian, though maybe not as good as Ricardo Monteblan as Khan in Star Trek II (Academy Award worthy IMHO). This is made up for by a better job by the other actors who do quite well and GREAT special effects and battle scenes
We Were Soldiers- one of the best war movies I've ever seen :kapow: FINALLY a Vietnam movie that treats the men who went there, and their spouses and families who supported them, with respect.
Spider Man- popcorn flick but extremely enjoyable :okthumb:
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones- Yoda in a light saber duel!! :rokk:
Scooby Doo- How can you NOT enjoy a movie made for both stoners AND kids!! B) Laughed my ass off the whole movie and they gave Scrappy Doo the treatment he deserves!! :papow:
Changing Lanes - good human condition movie.
I haven't seen many movies that might have been good like Minority Report, The Four Feathers, and others.
The ONLY movie I saw this year (didn't count LOTR as it came out in 2001) that is worthy of an Academy Award consideration was We Were Soldiers

I really liked Harry Potter and The Chamber Of Secrets, but yeah, been a pretty lackluster eyar, unless you've been scoping the direct-to-video underground market...some real gems there
I, too, have high hopes for The Twin Towers...
Catch Me If You Can looks pretty good
I liked "The Ring" but since I'd already seen the Japanese version and preferred that one, the American version soured me a bit, but still a good flick. Technically, it was made in 2001, but didn't really (and still hasn't) see light here until this year, but I really enjoyed Battle Royale....a bunch of Japanese 9th graders dropped off on an island with exploding neck collars and weapons dropped from the sky have to fight it out to the death....I don't expect an American version of that movie anytime soon ;)))
While the movie had it's exploitative factor, there was actualy some good acting (for such a low budget) and even some really emotional scenes (the couple who are falling in love but know one must kill the other or face having their head exploded like a zit.....) and you'll never look at a Japanese schoolgirl the same way again after watching a pack of them toting machine guns in "Battle Royale"
Japanese cinema has consistantly been putting out much better product than here in the states......

Yeah.. The Ring was quite good. I like horror flicks that are different than the norm. This one certainly fits the bill.
And I did forget the Harry Potter movie, which I enjoyed quite a bit as well.
