what kind of program are you going to have for Penthouse? Playboy
has some kind of deal with Lensman who also owns GFY. Not sure if he
is just licensing their name and content or he's partnering with them or working for them or..........................

I was just joking... I guess it was kind of obtuse.

I noticed Playboy is starting to get there shit together. last year I heard Christy Heffner
talk about building $20m streaming studios for their web site, when they have a 100,000 members at $6 a month. Now I see them at $19.99, with a trial and a whole bunch of spam for former members and the lensman stuff.

I hear Beeker, penthouse.com circa 1998, is doing some stuff other there. I think they started poaching adult web talent before teaming up with adult.com.

my feeling about the lensman, playboy thing is that it will not live up to its potential.

the first rule of anything is know thyself, and playboy doesn't seem recounciled to selling jerk-off pics. They want to be in the low margin media biz, and feel people care about what they write about.

If Lensman can control the tour and members area it could have a lot of runway in front of it. I wouldn't bet on it thou.

Things are still in the incubation phase. We have been in the woods for the last couple of years running the site like an on-line magazine. We have a lot of stuff in front of us, but we should to be making some moves after Internext.

Playboy and Penthouse miscalculated the power of Internet sales back than and left BILLIONS of dollars to be picked up by "amateurs"

(Al Hadhazy, IFriends, was amateur programmer who takes home from the net more than Playboy and Penthouse combined)

of course you can argue that Guggenheim picked ALL the gold miners left behind in Klondike and got thousands of times more,

But compared to ARS/MaxCash/CE et al, they probably have more runway in front of them because they have done so poorly on the adult internet.

I think the example is Hustler. I bet Huslter.com makes more money with Ken and a focus on the web site as a profit center, than it did without a program. so should you start a program in 2002 or 2003, so late? sure dude.

Penthouse is leaving money on the table still. Take it.

let's face it,
lets give Larry Flynt the credot for recognizing Ken's talents and knowledge of the business and having him run with the ball EARLY in the game,
Playboy today also went Flynt's route and got Lensman to promote their product.

Penthouse should go the same route,
there are plenty of good people out there who know what they are doing and might be interested in this kind of arrangement.

than corporations in rapidly developing markets. totally agreed.

I see us as IBM who let Microsoft dominate a new market. But IBM is still big. They needed to re-invent themselves as a service company. That is our test.

and I do give credit to LF for realizing that the adult web was a different animal than the magazine he created in the 1970's. kudos to him.

If we tried to do it totally my ourselves, we would be stupid. Its' just like anything. If you don't know how to do it; hire the best.
