I swear to God, at least 4 out of 10 times I see 'congradulations' instead of 'congratulations' on websites, not just porn, but everywhere.

It has become my pet peeve and I think it is annoying. I mean, come on .. is it so hard to spell a word you've been hearing since your first birthday?

Believe it or not, the spelling on this board is above the 'net average. We've got some fairly well-educated people here. I was an Interscholastic League speller in high school (many, many years ago); and reading Internet posts, as well as search terms, is just plain scary.

Not reading too many boards? Plenty, but boards are another thing, people write stuff fast on there (or at least I hope that's it).

funny thread, the spelling and poor grammar on the Internet, some by very smart people amazes me.

The 'your' vs 'you're' thing is in many cases just laziness and as Colin says it's almost to the point where it's going to be accepted as common usage.

The funniest thing is when somebody flames another person with 'YOUR A FUCKEN LOOSER!'.

At the end of this thread I'll put them together in a list of the most egregious mispellings(sp?) commonly found on the Internet. You guys have already mentioned many of them.

Here are two more that drive me nuts.

All that said, spelling, like handwriting, isn't a great indicator of somebody's intelligence.

I don't know why some people can't spell, might have something to do with early years at home and school, think it's one of those things if you get off to a bad start it stays with you. I was a reader as a kid, read the newspaper, books, anything, as soon as I learned how to read, spelling just came naturally, the more you see a word in print the more the proper spelling sticks in your head.

I was in South Beach a few months ago and they were on the streets looking for people to be on the show. They came up to me and said "Hey, you look like a character. Would you like to be on "Street Smarts"? I said "So you think I look STUPID?" and laughed. We talked for a minute .. and then I said "I can't be on the show. I'd know all the answers." She says "Everyone says that". They asked me about 10 questions - one was "What was Einstein's first name?" I knew all the answers.

Anyway - they strongly encouraged me to either answer within a few seconds or make an answer up. Those are the rules. That's what they want you to do. You have to answer SOMETHING and at high speed that usually comes out funny. I would guess from watching some more people get interviewed that some people knew the answers and faked not knowing to get on the show.
