Saw this on CNN... sort of makes me wonder what is going on all of a sudden...

Hell if they're publicly willing to admit that we no longer have the right to privacy as adult citizens think of how much abuse they will dish out to the poor kids....

Gosh you guys love to demegogue and start freaking out over every little thing, looking for boogeymen where none exist.
I have a friend who is a recruiter for the Marines, he normally goes school by school to the Adminstrations to get this information, and to make a informative call to let the kids know of potential careers in the military and programs including free college. Nothing more, nothing else - if anything this is just making it easier for the gov't to spam you with "NEW OPPORTUNITIES"
The recruiters used to do it on their own anyway.... as far as draft cards we already have selective service for every male to sign up over 18.
Raw Alex for an America Hater, you sure do know a lot abotu what is going on and take a deep interest in her..... :D

We had a Junior ROTC Program (Navy) in the high school I went to and recruiters were a very common site....even though the JROTC program wasn't pushed as a recruiting tool, that's what it was....well, ok, it was mainly an excuse for us to take field trips to places like Pensacola, Treasure Island, Seattle, etc. and consider them as "educational field trips" because we'd tour a ship or two....and of course the teachers were retied military guys, so swearing was par for the course as was smoking, rough talk and loose chaperoning :)
this certainly isn't a new thing..
I live in mass, graduated HS in '92 .. recruiters started calling with about 6 months to go before graduation, and continued for a year after graduation.
had one show up at my house unannounced.
had me down at the office showing me videos of topless beaches in brazil or some fucking place, saying shit like 'YOU could be there DUDE" trying to sound all cool and shit.
they also had a large presence every day as school was getting out, following and trying to talk to the students like some poor mans stalker.
they were in full force on graduation day as well.
persistent motherfuckers.
if I remember correctly, at the time there was a mandatory test somewhere along the way during junior year that was some form of military related intelligence placement test.. can't remember the name of it though, it was cake.
probably why the fuckers kept calling me.

Mike, when you are in a room with a 20,000 pound gorilla, you get very good at watching where she is about to sit. :o

:yowsa: :yowsa: Good point Alex!!! I do appreciate it, at least you can engage in intelligent debates on the issue.
DX I scored well in that test as well, and had the phone calls - I thought about doing the Marine thing, but they realy did not have enough to offer me. However, I think I probably would have been more focused and directed in early life if I had gone....
Of course I would have went to college, let military pay then go in as an officer. My father was a grunt, so he wanted to make sure I would not be as well.

I have np with recruiters, when you have an All Vol. military, you need sales ppl to keep retention and troop size up to there limits.
sales and more sales;)
the Military is good for young adults.

do you live on a cloud Alex?
on a rainbow?

<music fades in>
the spotlight fades in, illuminating RawAlex in the darkness of a forgotten Paris street.
the music fades in... a soft melody that reminds us of the most pleasant of childhood memories
RawAlex, wearing a dress and bonnet like young Cossette of Les Miserables, slowly raises his head, revealing his weary and lost face as he begins to sing about Canada....
"There is a castle on a cloud
I like to go there in my sleep
Aren't any floors for me to sweep
Not in my castle on a cloud.
There is a room that's full of toys
There are a hundred boys and girls
Nobody shouts or talks too loud
Not in my castle on a cloud.
There is a lady all in white
Holds me and sings a lullaby
She's nice to see
And she's soft to touch
She says: "RawAlex, I love you very much."
I know a place where no one's lost
I know a place where no one cries
Crying at all is not allowed
Not in my castle on a cloud."

Colin,
I remember that asvab test.
got like a 73 or something on it. Thought I did bad, but the guys told me they don't grade on a straight 1-100 like most tests.
Shit, still ended up in a combat arms Mos :)))

A.S.V.A.B.
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery
I think it is required for ROTC.. but it was optional for everyone else to take. It was a joke.

I scored all 98's and 99's on the ASVAB except mechanical aptitude...to this day, the extent of my automechanical knowledge is limited to filling the car with gas, putting water in the radiator andadding more oil (with my wife carefully watching just in case ;))
the ASVAB's weren't so much about knowledge as they were aptitude...
and thank godess typing wasn't really measured on them ;)
