View Full Version : What About Psychics Or Esp Is It Bs?

i had a girlfriend
we argued a lot and there was a lot of fighting. (she was always wrong though!)

as our relationship neared its twilight hours, the arguing grew worse.

one day at 1am, we just finish screaming about nothing, realize we are idiots and her mother calls. "whats wrong, whats going on, i know something is wrong, please tell me...."

her mother lived about 150 miles away.

ok.... not TOOOOOO weird. but weird.

about two weeks later, we had another big arguement because she would not accept that she was always wrong and i never was.

at 3 in the morning as we had just calmed down, her mother called. "i woke up because i know something is wrong between you two... tell me whats going on"

it happened a third time. never at any other time did she call like this. only these times we were fighting and breaking up.

part of me wants me to believe that it is just a coincidence or that there is an explanation. the logical side says that the odds are so astronomically against that happening 3 times in a row at the exact moment we were fighting that it cant be coincidence.

am i the only one who has had experiences like that?

JR, I had similar experiences...with calls as far away as from Israel.

LL has very unusual qualities,
I trust her guts feelings more often than my own in certain areas...

i met a girl in Russia once and she wanted me to meet her mother. her mother came in the room with a little book and asked my age, date of birth and some other info.

then she spent about 10 minutes furiously adding, subtracting and dividing with a calculator. she looked everything up in the book and then told made a lot of remarks about me, my personality, what kind of person i am etc. i was completely floored at the accuracy... then she announced that i was "acceptable", smiled, gave me a hug and left the room.

i guess in the end, i had to respect her for doin that math.

i never went back there again.

A few months ago, I had a strange feeling that something happened to my grandfather. As he was in the tenth year of his bipass I was very worried. I tried to reach him and couldn't. I left a message. A few days later, he returned my call. Nothing was wrong. He was just out of town.

Another true story. The last time I flew, all the passengers looked strange to me - like something was wrong. I worried greatly that there would be something wrong with the flight, but everything went perfectly. It was one of the smoothest flights I have ever been on.

One of my first jobs was as a cashier in a "Convenient Food Mart" in Syracuse, New York. I also ran the lottery machine. People loved to talk to me every day about how they could FEEL their numbers were going to come in. In six months, hundreds of people felt they were going to win the big state lottery "TONIGHT", but none ever did. There WAS this one lady who hit in a 3-way. I think it paid something like $1000. She was absolutely convinced that she KNEW her numbers were going to come in.

People very selectively remember when events happens that they had a feeling about and easily forget ones that didn't turn out to be true.

JR - you stated that there was a LOT of fighting. You could use that to assess the odds. If you fought every other day, the odds of someone calling you on a day you were fighting three times in a row is 1 in 8.

Or we could say you were fighting every day for a few weeks and that as long as her mom called within a 2 hour time period, that would consitute a coincidence. Then, the odds of her doing that are (2/24)^3 = 1 in 1728. Low but not amazing at all considering how many times 1 in 1728 events DON'T happen in your life. We see the events that do happen but no one says " I went to the grocery store today and didn't see anyone I know."

Maybe I am bitter. They don't even have Ophiuchus listed in the Herald's daily horoscopes.

I definately do and trust my instinct. I beleive I am psychic and often read people well. It's not that I don't make mistakes but trust my gut and I'm not off too often.

When it comes to my son it's almost a direct connection.

I beleive in it all.

Good morning everyone!

Three years ago, I left on a Sunday afternoon from Ashland, Oregon (Southern, Oregon) to go visit my daughter a 5+ hour drive away in Portland, Oregon...she didn't have a phone, I had no idea if she would be home (and the odds were she wouldn't be), I had to work the next morning, we weren't even on good terms at the moment, but suddenly I KNEW I needed to go to Portland. No particular panic....just a "knowing".

When I arrived at 6:30 p.m....I found her crying her eyes out, sick with a "cold" she said. She was beet red from head to toe, her face was swollen and she had a resting heart rate of 132. She was too sick to know how sick she was and her roommate was unconcerned and clueless.

When I took her to the emergency room, they swept her past people bleeding from the head, others with obviously broken limbs, and determined she was almost comatose from a severe allergic reaction to a sulfa drug her doctor had prescribed the day before for a sinus infection. The doctor said if I had not arrived she would have soon "gone to sleep" and she would have died. She had never had a sulfa drug before....

Call it a mother's intuition or ESP, or heavenly intervention....I don't know...

I really was going to post those exact words. So now I am interested.

Is this some sort of cosmic coincidence or is it something that a number of us might think to post?
Am I "on the same wavelength" as Nick?
Are we both tuned to the same bat "channel"?
How likely is it that I am not telling the truth?
Would you believe me if I told you?
Is it possible Nick and I have formed a psychic conspiracy?

If you think you believe in psychics you might want to read a couple books by James Randi before using their revelations to make any major decisions. He will give 1 million dollars to anyone who can prove they have psychic powers, so far after 20+ years no one has come close to winning.

check out his web site:

come on, we are talking about 'beliefs', NOT based on facts, but based on peoples interpretations of facts that become ordered and altered according to what suits us most at the time.

why is believing in psychics, astrology, past lives etc, any less credible than basing ones entire life on the bible?!

I've had enough odd experiences in my life to believe that there is *something* that happens on a different dimension to the one we live on.

Almost everyone has a story of feeling something wierd when a loved one dies or is sick or when a major event occurs. Some may be lying ... but I know that my experience was real, I don't expect anyone to believe it however. These connections are things we feel in our bones.

Colin, you said you called your grandfather and he was out of town but you had a feeling something happened to him. Maybe it did. Maybe something terrible happened, but he didn't want to bother you with it. Maybe he almost stepped in front of a car, but escaped without even realizing it and you got a signal that wasn't needed afterall!

ok, i'm reaching here LMAO

That is a very interesting question in your post though. Why should anyone be more prone to believe things that have a body of evidence for them rather than not? I dont know if you want to understand where I am coming from and it doesn't matter to me but I DO want to understand where you are coming from.

I guess I would begin by asking you why you don't believe in Santa Claus or the Boogy monster. More or less - what are the reasons for your disbelief in various things - whatever they may be? Do you believe in Mohammed as a prophet? Do you believe in Christ as savior? Do you believe aliens built the pyramids? If no to any of these questions - why not?

>>Why should anyone be more prone to believe things that have a body of evidence for them rather than not?

I guess I feel a lot more comfortable believing in things I can see or probably more so, things i *feel* ... there are things I have known to be fact all my life, related to events and paths in my life. how do I know them? i have no idea, i just *feel* that this is the way it is.

I *knew* I was going to do something artistic, on a computer ... I knew this before there was color monitors ... In my final year of high school i was introduced to this amazing program called 'photoshop'. I smiled to myself, and thought aaaaah this is what i was waiting for!! I don't really know how to explain it any better ...

>>More or less - what are the reasons for your disbelief in various things - whatever they may be?

I believe ANYTHING is possible ... how do I know what's true or not? i have no clue!! I would never say I don't *believe* in something, and I'll use religion as my example.

I don't know if there is a god, or a heaven or hell, or angels or a jesus or any of that, I think these people probably existed and fables of life in this time have become something our lives are based on. Now consider how many things in our lives are based on religion, on the 'belief' that the bible is the book of rules. When you 'swear on a bible', what are you really doing?! your putting your hand on a book and saying 'yes sir, i wont lie', and we use this as a way of getting cold blooded murderers and rapists to tell the truth?!

let me reverse the question, why do we believe in all of this? What evidence has been presented on the truth of the bible? Do people really get abducted by aliens? Is nick really a crook?

Colin,

What evidence has been presented on the truth of the bible?

Not much. Not enough.

Not much. Not enough. This insinuates there is SOME sort of evidence, be it minute or not....elaborate please.

what would it mean anyway if NOTHING WAS POSSIBLE?
what is nothing?

Nothing IS possible.

What is nothing?

Well, according to Kabbalists who believe the tree of life is a map of the universe:

"One must begin, as a mathematician would, with the idea of Zero. Absolute Zero, which turns out on examination to mean any quantity that one may choose, but not, as the layman may first suppose, Nothing, in the 'absense-of anything' vulgar sense of the word.

The Kabbalists expanded this idea of Nothing, and got a second kind of Nothing which they called 'Ain Soph" - "Without Limit". (This idea seems not unlike that of space.) They then decided that in order to interpret this mere absence of any means of definition, it was necessary to postulate the Ain Soph Aur - "Limitless Light". (The Space-Time Continuum?)

All this is evidently without form and void; these are abstract conditions, not positive ideas. The next step must be the idea of position. One must formulate this thesis: If there is anything except Nothing, it must exist within this Boundless Light; within this space; within this inconceivable Nothingness, which cannot exist as Nothingness, but has to be conceived of as Nothingness composed of the annihilation of two imaginary opposites. Thus appears THE POINT, which has 'neither parts nor magnitude, but only position'."

And from there, it goes on to describe the formation of matter, motion, time and more.

Hehehe, so there you have it.
:bjump:
