I've always stayed where the convention was, be it the Imperial Palace (which I can promise you I'll NEVER stay at again, hehehe) Tropicana or the Venetian. As much as I LOVE the Venetian, I'm thinking maybe I'd like to try something different this time. What hotels are the closest (walking distance - I need the excercise B) ) and are nice. How far away is the Aladdin?

Or is it better just to be bored with the same room as the last 3 times in order to be near the convention? After all, they DO make your toast IN THE ROOM when you get breakfast room service :inlove:

Dear Peaches!

Hello girl! Good afternoon!!

Treasure Island is right across the street, and I stayed there once at an Internext, since the Venetian was all booked. It is a 5 minute walk away, or a $5 cab ride (go figure how they manage to stretch a short distance into a $5 cab fare???)...the rooms are adequate and definitely cheaper.

I found NOT being at the Venetian was a headache....marching back to my hotel room to change clothes, to rest, to grab something I forgot, was tiresome and inconvenient, but if you insist on diversity here, I recommend Treasure Island for it's close proximity, good price and somewhat decent accommodations.

That's my main worry :( I LOVE the Venetian, but it just seems a shame to stay in the same hotel time and time again when there are so many different ones there! But it is nice just to be able to run up to your room when needed........sigh.....maybe I can find a way to talk them into having it at different hotel each year :awinky:

I stay at Harrah's. It's right next door and it's reasonably priced. It's a nice standard hotel. I can't stand spending a lot on a room I'm hardly going to be in.

I was going to say Harrah's but Ulfie beat me to it :)

or there's always a room available at Casa De SykkBoy
of course it's very very very expensive ;)

Harrahs is definately a nice hotel, close to the Venetian, save a few bucks (more money left to play your favorite game of chance). If you're really looking low budget, they have the hourly hotels not too far from the action (just bring extra mace ;)))

I like the Aladdin, Mandalay and the Four Seasons at Mandalay. If you don't plan on being in the room much, the 4 Seasons is probably not worth the price.

I've heard, tho I am not 100% sure, that this will be the last show at the Venetian, since Mandalay's finishing construction on a convention building on the premises.

Excuse my ignorance but Harrahs seems to be around the same price as the Imperial Palace ($56 a night)......as much as I like to THINK I'm not a snob, I hate crappy hotel rooms :awinky: On a scale of 1-10 with IP being around a 3 and the Venetian around an 8, what would Harrahs be?

I was just looking and it says that the Sands Expo Center is adjacent to Harrahs - isn't that where the convention is?

I've stayed at both the Venetian and Treasure Isand

The rooms at the Venetian are nicer (and more expensive) but Treasure Island has ok rooms and home to Mystere
http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/CirqueDuSole...esident/mystere (http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/CirqueDuSoleil/en/shows/resident/mystere)

Actually the walk isn't that bad, maybe about 20 minutes to the convention floor and you can go without ever going street level (cross above the street on skywalk) and go through the huge mall in the Venetian (which has a very cool magic shop ) :D

Peaches, I've never been to the IP but I've heard it's a dump. Harrah's is nice. The rooms are clean, service is good, etc. I won't stay in dumpy, dirty hotels either. I wouldn't go back if it wasn't nice. It's about a 5 minute walk from the Venetian if that as well which makes it convenient as well.

For those of you that are staying at the Venetian, I'm finding the rates lower at http://www.i4vegas.com/

Travelworm has $45 rooms at Harrahs!

I love the internet! :inlove:

If you want better rates at certain Vegas hotels, don't call their 800 numbers, those are usually booking agencies....call their direct numbers ;)))

Peaches,

There is a nice hotel on D street.

Might have a problem catching a cab,
but you'll save lots of money.

Voodoo, I have NO idea what D street is, but due to your glee in trying to send me there, I have a sneaky suspicion it's not what I'm looking for :awinky:

Dumb question: Are the rooms that the Internext website is showing for Harrahs better than their "Deluxe" (read: normal) rooms? I'm finding prices about 1/2 (down to $42 a night right now) of what the Internext site is showing and USUALLY they have decent rates. Even Harrahs homepage is showing less expensive rates!

The Mirage is also right across the street from Venetian. I've stayed there a couple of times and love the atmosphere. It's a "tweener". The rooms are very nice but a step down from Venetian, Bellagio or Mandalay. However, they're much better than say Harrahs or Bally's. Price is also in the middle these days.

Harrahs isn't bad since they've remodeled it. It's a good choice if money is an object and you just want a close cheap convenient place to sleep. They draw a few too many slot queens with their lucky sweaters with rhinestone studded dice for my liking though.

If you dont mind being a little further away, Bellagio rocks.

Allrightythen, what's the difference between The Mirage and Treasure Island? They're owned by the same company and they have similar rates....is one closer to the Venetian (this is my MAIN worry........)?

I hate making decisions  When I'm rich I'm hiring someone to do all this crap for me.

The Mirage is pretty much right across the street from Harrah's if I remember right. I've never been in it so I can't tell you anything about it. I stayed at Treasure Island a few years ago and didn't really care for it. I've never been able to put my finger on the reason but I had no desire to stay there again. I know that doesn't help much but it's just my experiences.

The basic layout is like this....

Mirage Treasure Island

Ulfie, that's the most impressive map I've seen on this board! :wnw:

Here's what I see:

Venetian - best choice for closeness, but I want something different

Harrah's - 2nd choice for closeness, but maybe not all great, though the rooms Internext has on their page might be nicer - or overpriced - BUT Billy's going to be there :bjump:

Mirage/Treasure Island - 3rd place for closeness, BUT it's nicer than Harrah's and I'm still not sure if they are one or two different hotels.

Or I can stay at Lance's if I pay him tens of thousands of dollars :gbounce:

Both Mirage and Treasure Island are essentially across the street from Venetian. The Mirage volcano is almost directly across from the Rialto Bridge. I believe the driveway that Mirage and Treasure Island share is directly across from the driveway into Venetian.

The real question is walking distance. The moving sidewalk for Mirage dumps out next to Caesars and across from the corner of Harrahs that is closest to Venetian. At Treasure Island all you have to do is cross Las Vegas Blvd and find your way inside...so it probably is just a few steps closer, but not much.

As for the difference between the two, that's a blur now. Originally, Treasure Island was built when Vegas had the bright idea that they should become a family attraction. And Steve Wynn built Treasure Island to be the more family friendly companion to The Mirage. However, I think they ultimately found that "family traffic" had "bad conversions" as people with families along tend to gamble less.

So now really the distinction between the two is largely just the theme. Mirage is south seas while Treasure Island has the whole pirate adventure thing going. Both have 4 diamond ratings and were recently remodeled, so the rooms are in great shape.

For me, I just happen to like the restaurants and casino in the Mirage a bit better than those at TI.

Peaches, I believe that the Mirage is one- half step up from the Treasure Island in both ambievance and room size. Harrahs is probably a little more convenient, because you don't have to cross the street. The best location would be near the BACK door of the sands.... since that is where the show is always located. :agrin:

I think you will see prices continue to drop for that week in Vegas. The hotels had the prices propped up again, and they are seeing that they are not going to get them moved at those prices.

Thanks Fay and HP for the explanation on Mirage/TI - I think if I decide to go that route, I'll stay at the Mirage :)

Fay - you watch these price things - except for a few of the consolidators, I noticed prices almost doubling for the 8th :zoinks: Is there something else going on?

The video show backs into the end of Internext, and CES starts on the 8th I think it is.

Sharpie
12-01-2002, 06:37 PM
That is exactly right! The prices are jacked up for CES - just the way they used to be for Comdex. Those may be coming down soon if they don't get them filled very soon. It depends on the turnout for CES.

Oh, yeah, this is from someone that made me freaking CHANGE ROOMS with them so they could be on the AIRPORT side of the hotel :zoinks:

And this same person didn't bother telling anyone ELSE he was changing rooms, so I kept getting calls in the middle of the night "Shok, come drink with me" "Shok, come sleep with me" "Shok, I loooove you!" and since they were all men, I thought they were for me

But that's OK because I ended up putting MY room on YOUR credit card bill which sent up a fraud alert and they called your wife :nyanya:

(I'm just trying to get away from the Venetian because I know you're staying there and I'm just not up for ANOTHER 4 days of 24 hour sex! And those weren't my legs.......:moon: )

I love this sentence ;-)
sums up my whole opinion of how vegas drives traffic ;-)

peaches, the IP is the dumpiest hotel ever - and it smells. but the BEST craps table i have EVER played on is there so I have learned to put up with the smell, and the short walk from the venetian.

harrah's is probably easiest as you don't have to cross the road, but any of the 3 you've mentioned are suitable. i'm thinking the same thing this time as i'm fucking sick of the venetian LOL

this is a pretty specific question for those who have stayed in hotels apart from the venetian ... do all of the hotels mentioned here have high speed internet? I haven't used it at the venetian but i think they have it.
would really like to not be using a modem this time ;-(

Lets just make this easy, is anybody driving to Vegas and bringing a lot of stuff, if so can Peaches just sleep in the truck ?? Heck you can use the casino bathrooms, eat in the resturants, so what do you need a room for ? ?

Heck Mike use to live on his moms porch !!

And as crazy as it sounds, I'm honestly tired of the Venetian - I want to try new things, stay in new place, experience new experiences, try out new room services....but be within walking distance of the convention :cdance:

Though I like Billy's suggestion - I can drive my little pickup truck there, stick a twin mattress in the back, and sleep under the stars...though in Vegas, there are too many lights to SEE the stars! :zoinks: If Shok didn't insist on staying in rooms next to sex orgies in the hallways, I'd stay with him :nyanya:

I've done the "stay in other hotels" route when I first started going to the shows - mostly because I waited to late to get a room at the Venetian and they were sold out so it wasn't really a choice and it blows!

It's a 15 minute walk from the front door of the Venetian to the floor alone - add in the walk/ride from a different hotel on top of that and while that might not seem so bad in the morning when you're just waking up - at the end of the day after you've been on your feet all day - it sucks. If you have to take a cab, then the cost of the cab has to factor into any $ savings staying at a cheaper hotel might cost.

For me, it's more conveinent to stay at the Venetian. Don't forget, that while being in Vegas is pleasurable - this is a business trip. The rooms in the Venetian are spacious and quiet and you can have a meeting in your room and get things accomplished without a few of your guest having to sit on your bed.

Go through the "I want to experience new things and experiences" routine and take a vacation some other time/trip to Vegas

That's what I was thinking too, just tell them convention center, not hotel and you'll be right there at the entrance...
