View Full Version : Market For An Online Backup System?

Everyone knows about safety deposit boxes, I realize this idea is a little harder to carry over onto the internet, but are there any sites that are specifically designed to store your data? For example if I wanted to store my hard drive anonymously in an online safety deposit box, are there services that offer this? I know about those old now-defunct 'personal hard drive' sites that everyone hotlinked porn from, but what about a real legitimate paid service where you can back up your documents and files safely and anonymously?

Doing the same for adult/non-adult websites would be pretty slick, I'm sure it doesn't take a lot of effort to set up auto-backup scripts for it. The question is ... would your data really be safe?

backup.com offers this service for desktop users... it works pretty damn well.

I've heard of people doing it for server based stuff too, but I can't recall any company names at the moment.

cal - I'd agree with KC on this one - backup.com is the only one I've heard of... never used however so I can't vouch for it... :awinky:

I have often thought about this.

About a year ago I looked in to it and decided it would be much more convient to get a server for $99.00 a month and do automatic weekly backups to it.

http://www.rackshack.net/english/index.asp has servers for $99.00 a month.

512 MB RAM
60GB (7200RPM) Hard Drive
400 GB Monthly Transfer

We use http://www.connected.com for off-site backups for our Controllers PC, our Lawyers PC and my personal PC. It is quite simple and really cheap...(I think we pay like $15/mo or something like that).

(and it has saved my ass on more than one occasion :)

He takes the masking tape off that holds the case together and plugs his hard drive into the IDE port!

With a scheduled FTP session through CuteFTP.

You can set uploads/downloads to reoccur daily/weekly etc.

Edit: I don't have a server through them anymore.
